Karol Krotki Chosen President-Elect of Washington Statistical Society
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (July 2, 2007) – Karol Krotki, a senior research statistician at RTI International, has been elected president-elect of the 1,000-member Washington Statistical Society, the largest chapter of the American Statistical Association.
Krotki will serve a three-year cycle as president-elect, president and past-president.
"We congratulate Karol on this major achievement and recognition by his peers," said Sally Morton, vice president of the Statistics & Epidemiology unit at RTI International and president-elect of the American Statistical Association. "RTI and the American Statistical Association are fortunate to have him as our leader in this important role."
Krotki joined RTI in 2004 as a member of the Statistics and Epidemiology unit in RTI's D.C. office.
He is known nationally for his work in survey research, RDD (random digit dialing) sampling and weighting. His areas of specialization include survey methodology, demography and international studies and social science and data analysis.
Krotki has authored or co-authored several professional articles and is a frequent presenter at professional conferences and meetings.
In addition to his membership in the American Statistical Association, Krotki is a member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research, the Inter-American Statistical Institute and the International Association for Survey Statisticians. He is currently a member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research's education committee and was president of its Washington, D.C. chapter in 1999.
Prior to joining RTI, Krotki was chief statistician and served as head of survey operations at NuStats of Austin, Texas. He has held senior positions in such organizations as Knowledge Networks, Education Statistical Services Institute and the Institute for Survey Research. He has also been a demographer for the United Nations Latin American Demographic Center and a statistician for Statistics Canada.
Krotki holds a Ph.D. in sociology and population studies from the University of Michigan, a master's degree in mathematical statistics from the University of Michigan and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from McGill University.
