SAF Minutes for February 9, 2017
WELCOME: Ms. Julien welcomed all at the meeting. Ms. Gibson read the January minutes. Ms. Bish moved the motion to pass the reading of the minutes and this was seconded by Ms. Aspler.
BUDGET/PERSONNEL/ENROLLMENT/SAFETY: Ms. Talley said that we will return to the same budget we had last year. An ad will be placed for a social studies teacher at Drew.
PRE K HEAD START UPDATE: Ms. Reynolds reported about their black history celebration with the pre-k kids, their valentine activity and visit to the dentist.
DREW TEEN PARENT AND WEST CAMPUS UPDATE: Ms. Allen said the the pre-k children will join the teen parents in their Black History celebration on February 24, 2017.
ADULT LITERACY/PARTNERSHIP UPDATE: Ms. Gibson said that students at Broward Outreach Center and Turning Point Off campus sites are all recognizing Black History month by displaying arts and crafts at the various ceremonies at the centers. She said that Farm Share provided the families with green beans, breakfast bars and mac and cheese for our food bank. Students will be given the first opportunity to receive these items and the remaining items will be shared between Drew and West campus employees. Our YMCA representative, Mr. Crowley said that there are openings in the YMCA and their enrollment is about 30 kids.

WELCOME: Ms. Julien welcomed all to the SAC meeting. Ms. Gibson read the January SAC minutes. Ms. Bish moved the motion to pass the reading of the SAC minutes and this was seconded by Ms. Aspler.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Ms. Julien gave the update for the Bond funds. Ms. Talley included that a wish list for the ballot was presented, but we cannot vote until it is represented and selected on one specific item. She also said that members have the opportunity to make changes on the professional study days waiver. She implied that everything is done based on feedback from members. TThere were 27 votes out of 30 in favor of the Mock PSD waiver ballot. Ballot for Professional Study days were 12 SAC members in favor of the Ballot. The members were in favor of part II of ballot having the various options of four and eight days. The SAC voted on the Professional Study Days Waiver by 63% majority vote in favor of PSDs for the 2017/2018 school year.

Mrs. Talley welcomed all parents and staff to the community meeting. Mrs. Talley explained the rationale for the proposed Professional Study Days Waiver. Mrs. Talley was able to explain the importance of Professional Study Day waiver was for faculty from the two campuses: Dave Thomas Education Center and Charles Drew Family Resource Center to collaborate and learn to help improve the progress of the student across all content area. She explained that the students would dismissed early hence faculty will remain for staff development and Professional Learning Communities. Mrs. Talley addressed the importance of PSD days for the 2017-2018 school year. She expressed that the ballot would have the options of four or eight days. She asked the community members for their input. She was able to address their kquestions about how it impacted their students as it pertained to graduation.
