5 / Senior Vice President – Ken Lewis
5.1 / Ken provided an update on the current sponsorship venture. So far we have been unsuccessful in securing a sponsorship as desired, so Ken put it to the floor for any other possibilities on how to obtain sponsorship.
5.2 / Ken discussed the new AL’s mentoring initiative, where PL referees would act as a mentor/4th official on an AL’s game to help these referees progress to PLs in the future. Referees wishing to be mentored for PLs must be over 18, must have past the fitness test and hold at least a full level 3 accreditation.
6 / Junior Vice President – Chris Senior
6.1 / Chris and Lucas are in the process of fixing up the google mentoring spreadsheet so it is up and running soon. So far, Chris has been appointing mentors through email. Chris thanked all those who have been mentoring the juniors to date, most of the juniors have been mentored. Mark Pryke enquired into the email glitch for the mentoring forms. This is to be fixed ASAP.
6.2 / The new on-field mentoring initiative has received very positive feedback from a wide variety of people. It is reminded that a mentor must get the permission from the coaches of both teams before proceeding with this form of mentoring.
7 / Registrar – Lucas Simonsen
7.1 / Lucas is still processing registrations, having done 300 this month alone. To date MWFRA has around 650 registered referees.
8 / Assessors Convenor – Ross Turner
8.1 / Ross indicated that he would be using the same assessment procedure for PL and AL referees.
9 / Branch Coach – Gerry Lenihan
9.1 / Gerry commented on the success of the fitness tests so far with many referees turning up to undergo testing. The last fitness test is to be held this Wednesday night. Gerry had tried to find a variety of days to accommodate everyone.
10 / Secretary – Jack Morales
10.1 / Jack provided an update on the comms equipment. So far there has been very positive feedback regarding the utility of the equipment. Being able to talk with your ARs and mentor them etc has proved very beneficial. However some of the sets are experiencing functioning issues.
11 / Assistant Secretary – Luciane Lauffer
11.1 / Luciane reminded everyone that May 19 would be the date the MWFRA women’s forum would be held. The forum will be held at the Dee Why Hotel with guest speaker Jenny Bray attending. No men!
12 / Gear Steward – Trevor Croal
12.1 / Trevor had gear at the meeting for purchase, including the popular waterproof notebooks.
13 / Course Trainer – Steve Smit
13.1 / There will most likely be another referee course which will be held soon to accommodate for the team referees who failed to attend the previous courses.
14 / President’s Report – Robert Brennan
14.1 / Rob reminded the referees of some of the less enforced competition rules and laws. ID cards should be checked and approved 10 minutes prior to kick-off. Coaches are also required to have ID cards displayed on a lanyard as well. Substitutes are required to be seated when not warming up and must have bibs on to help match officials distinguish between who is on the field and who is not. No balls are to be used when in the technical area or near the field, such as players warming up with a ball, which is not allowed near the field of play. There should be only 4 managers and 5 substitutes in the technical area.
14.2 / A Pittwater Premier League player claims to be wearing long black skins for medical purposes. MWFA treasurer states that this player has no exemption recorded.
14.3 / Mentors will be getting ID cards if they don’t already have them.
14.4 / It is well known that Grahams oval allows dogs to run around without a leash. Following incidents where dogs have run onto the field of play and disturbed games, referees are reminded to be cautious and proactive about it. However, because dogs are apparently allowed to run around without a leash, referees should not engage in any arguments.
14.5 / Rob thanked Paul Franklin on his kind sponsorship of $500 which as been a regularly annual agreement over the past couple of years.
15 / Administrative Officer – Sigrid Mulherin
15.1 / In Sigrid’s absence Chris discussed some points made by Sigrid. These can be found attached below.
16 / General Business
16.1 / There have been issues with lighting and the colours of field marking, particularly at Millers reserve. Damien requested that we talk to the clubs about this, as the dark field marking make it hard to see in low light, which was agreed by players as well. If this is not possible for some reason it was also asked if games could be played on the centre field at Millers where it is more illuminated. Craig also agreed this was an issue at Passmore oval.
