Smarter not Harder - Algebra 2:
Good attendance, participation during class and doing homework assignments are the #1 way to do your best and be happy with your learning!
§ Be prepared
§ Be respectful to everyone at all times.
§ Follow directions and be prepared to give your best, I will do the same!
§ Come in for EXTRA HELP any time you are confused or have fallen behind. My door is always open!
§ Be ready to make mistakes, to learn and improve, to explain your ideas and to ask lots of questions
Math Resource:.
The math resource room is available and staffed every hour of the day in room 1021. Sign in during your study hall for extra help, for a quiet place to work on math and to work on retakes.
Students may be assigned to attend resource if their grade drops or if they need to complete assessments or a retake. / Grading: Your semester grade will be composed of:
10% - Formative Work: homework (5%) and quizzes
70% - Chapter Tests and Projects
20% - Final Exam
Grading Policies:
A. Homework:
§ The homework is critical to mastering the concepts of the course. Late work will be accepted if necessary.
B. Quizzes:
§ Formative quizzes are a good way for you to know how you are doing on the current material. Prepare for quizzes the same way you would prepare for a summative assessment.
§ Quizzes are graded and returned to the student to allow reflection on material that needs to be practiced before the chapter assessment.
§ Quizzes may not be retaken.
§ Qualifier Quizzes are designed to help you be confident that you are ready for a unit test. Students must score 80% or complete corrections prior to taking an assessment in order to show that they are prepared for the test.
C. Tests:
§ Tests will be given at the end of every chapter.
§ Students need to demonstrate proficiency on all chapter tests to earn credit for Algebra 2. This will also demonstrate proficiency in the Common Core Standards adopted by the state of Wisconsin.
§ Any student is free to retake any chapter test (see retake policy) to increase their level of mastery.
§ Retakes need to be completed before the next unit test.
D. Final Semester Exam:
§ 20% of semester grade.
§ Covers all material from the current semester.
§ All chapter tests and projects must be completed with a passing score prior to taking the final exam.
Algebra 2 Topics:

§ Linear Relations and Functions
§ Systems of Equations and Inequalities
§ Matrices
§ Quadratic Functions & Relations
§ Polynomials & Polynomial Functions
Semester 2

I understand that mastery of a concept or skill may not happen right away. If you want to improve your level of mastery and your test score, a reassessment is available after completing the following qualifiers:
§ Students will complete test corrections and additional work as needed to demonstrate that they are prepared to take the assessment.
§ Students will schedule and complete the retake BEFORE the next unit assessment. Retakes can be scheduled in advance for before school, after school or during a student’s study hall.
Please note:
§ Retake opportunities are not available for formative quizzes or semester exams.
§ The retake score will replace the previous score.
§ The retake assessment will cover all of the same material as the original assessment.
Learning Skills (CSR grades): The following criteria will be used for determining a student’s learning skills mark each quarter.
Consistently: Misses this expectation 0 - 3 times
Sometimes Misses this expectation 4 – 7 times
Rarely: More than 8 incidents
You will be scored on each of the following:
