SOFTBALL RULES

·  TEAMS MUST BE READY TO PLAY 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO GAME TIME. We will start games early, when possible, in an attempt to keep the tournament running on schedule or ahead of schedule.

·  Pool play will be a 60 minute time limit or 7 innings (finish the inning). Pool play games can end in a tie. Bracket play games will be will be 75 minute time limit or 7 innings (finish the inning). In the event of a tie after the time limit or 7th inning in bracket, an international tie breaker will be used.

·  Run Rule is as follows: 12 runs after 3, 10 runs after 4, 8 runs after 5.

·  Teams may either bat their entire lineup with free substitution, bat 9 with substitutions or DP flex.

·  Home team will be determined by ball roll or coin flip (umpire's preference).

·  Courtesy runners are allowed for the pitcher and/or catcher of the previous defensive inning. This will be the furthest removed player or substitutes. If you are using substitutions as courtesy runners, the same sub cannot run for both the catcher and pitcher. You must use another sub.

·  Forfeits will be recorded as 7-0.

·  All other ASA rules apply

·  Poor sportsmanship and foul language will not be tolerated.

**This is a non sanctioned tournament. There are no protests. All judgment calls are final. You may ask for a rule clarification from the UIC immediately after the play as long as there is no extended delay of the game. His or her decision is final.

8U Tournament Rules

·  Each at bat will consist of no more than 6 pitches or 3 strikes unless the 6th pitch is fouled. If the ball is not put in play, fouled or 3 strikes by the 6th pitch, the batter is out.

·  Pool play games will be 7 innings or 60 minutes. Pool games can end in a tie. Bracket games will be 7 innings or 75 minutes. In the event of a tie, the international tie breaker will be used.

·  Each team will bat their entire lineup and field 10 players on defense with free substitution. Coaches may coach the players on defense from the outfield.

·  A maximum of 10 batters may bat per inning.

·  There is no limit to the amount of bases a runner can advance on an overthrow.

·  Courtesy runner for catcher is only allowed when there are 2 outs and it will be the furthest removed player.

·  A batted ball that hits the coach pitcher will be ruled a dead ball and the pitch will be repeated. The coach must make an effort to keep from being hit by the ball. If no effort is made, it will be the umpire's judgment if the batter is out.

·  Pitcher's helper must have at least one foot in the circle when the ball is pitched.

·  Base runners may leave the base when the ball is released from the pitching coach's hand but may not steal

·  Time will be called and the play will stop when the ball is in control of a defender in front of the lead runner or the ball is control of a defender in the pitcher's circle. A base runner who is past the half way mark when time is granted, will advance to the next base. If they are not past the half way mark, they will be sent back to the previous bag (umpire's discretion).

·  No bunting, walks or infield fly rule.

·  Run rules are as follows: 12 after 3, 10 after 4, 8 after 5.

Home team will be determined by ball rule or coin flip (umpire's preference).
