Macromolecule Chart
Each student must construct a chart describing the characteristics of the four main types of organic macromolecules (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids).
The chart should include:
- the elements that are present in each macromolecule
- the molecular components and subunits of each macromolecule
- an explanation of the function of each molecule
- the types of bonds present in each molecule
- one example of a structural diagram for each macromolecule;
- A category labeled other. The other category will have different information for each macromolecule.
- For proteins, it should include an explanation of the levels of protein structure (primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary).
- For lipids, it should explain the difference between a saturated and unsaturated fat.
- For carbohydrates, it should explain the differences between the major types of carbohydrates (glycogen, starch, cellulose, etc.).
- For nucleic acids, it should explain the nitrogen base pairing rules that are followed in both RNA and DNA.
