A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE THE LANDRUM HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM OF LANDRUM IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON ITS 2005 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO HONOR THE TEAM AND ITS COACH, TRAVIS HENSON, ON A TRULY EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.
Whereas, the Landrum High School Cardinals capped their extraordinary 2005 baseball season by becoming State Champions, sending over one thousand fans to their feet as they dominated twelvetime State Champion BambergEhrhardt in a fiveinning, 111 victory on Landrum’s own field on May 11, 2005; and
Whereas, this win came only after countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears in the capture of the Upper State, District II, and Region 2A Championship titles, with the team maintaining a perfect 80 record through the playoffs; and
Whereas, the championship win and storybook 2005 season were possible only through the relentless hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and trainers; and
Whereas, the season has not been without adversity, as players and their coaches remained strong and steadfast despite a fatal collision that occurred when a vehicle crashed into the team bus as the players were traveling home from a game; and
Whereas, sophomore pitcher Alex Burrell and Head Coach Travis Henson brought great pride to Landrum High School and the surrounding community by being named 1A Player of the Year, and 1A Coach of the Year, respectively, by the S.C. Baseball Coaches Association; and
Whereas, the team also boasts the outstanding accomplishments of other playerstandouts, including sophomore Alex Burrell, sophomore Mark Cann, senior Justin Corn, sophomore Mark Rollins, and senior Jonathan Tillotson, who were named AllRegion players, and Jonathon Tillotson who was selected to play in the North/South All-Star Game; and
Whereas, the team’s success as a whole could not have been possible without the tireless leadership and support of assistant coaches Ray McCalister, Tucker Hamrick, Hambone Camp, and Josh Slatten, in addition to Managers Chris Linder and Kevin Jackson, and Bookkeeper Jerry Henson; and
Whereas, it is with great enthusiasm that the members of the General Assembly esteem the Landrum High School Varsity Baseball Team, and salute its players as serving as models for what can be accomplished with great dedication, heart, and perseverance. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Landrum High School Varsity Baseball Team of Landrum in Spartanburg County on its 2005 State Championship title and honor the team and its coach, Travis Henson, on a truly extraordinary season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Landrum High School Varsity Baseball Team, its coaches, and school officials.
