The Mission of Vision Quest
Our mission is to positively impact the lives and attitudes of incoming students by providing opportunities to grow and learn in a fun and healthy atmosphere which will aid in the transition to college life and give them the best opportunity to be a successful part of the McMurry family.
Objectives of Vision Quest
1. Facilitate a positive, welcoming environment
2. Provide opportunities for fun and friendship
3. Learn team-building skills
4. Promote campus involvement
5. Introduce McMurry history and traditions
6. Create bonds that will last throughout college
7. Be a mentor and source of information throughoutthe year
Position Description/Responsibilities
A Tribe Guide serves as a leader to new students and their families during StudentOrientation And Registration (SOAR) and Vision Quest. Tribe Guides will: lead group discussions and activities; take an active role in making each new student feel welcome at McMurry; introduce new students to campus services and building locations; assist students in understanding the policies and procedures of McMurry; introduce new students to campus organizations and encourage students to get involved in student life; and serve as a role model to incoming students.
Tribe Guides assist with all orientation events and play a vital role in facilitating the adjustment of new students to our campus and the community. Tribe Guides will also assist in the preparation of orientation activities and materials.
Tribe Guides MUST attend ALL training sessions, ONESOAR Session, and ALL Vision Quest activities. Please see the Vision Quest Timeline below.

Tribe Guide Expectations
Have and maintain a 2.0 GPA & be in good standing with McMurryUniversity (not on any type of university probation).
Attend ALL mandatory Tribe Guide Training sessions.
Attend ONE of the SOAR sessions. (If you are going to be out of Texas over the summer, you can get special permission to not attend a SOAR session).
Attend ALL Vision Quest activities.
Be early to all Tribe Guide Training sessions, SOAR, and Vision Quest activities.
Work as a team with the Director of Orientation, Tribe Co-Chiefs, and fellow Tribe Guides.
Be a good role model: honest, courteous, and a good representative of McMurryUniversity and SOAR/Vision Quest.
Demonstrate commitment to your position as a Tribe Guide and to the freshmen students.
Discuss any concerns with the Co-Chiefs and/or the Director of Orientation, not other students.
Avoid compromising photos (ex. Facebook, MySpace, etc.) of yourself that may tarnish your image or the image of the Vision Quest program.
Do Not supply alcohol to or purchase alcohol for freshmen students.
Do Not consume alcohol and/or drugs with freshmenstudents during SOAR and/or Vision Quest, PERIOD!
Do Notattend ANY event (during SOAR and/or Vision Quest) where freshmen students are present and alcohol or drugs are present.
Do Notinform freshmen students about parties during SOAR and/or Vision Quest.
Do Not engage in pre-pledging of any sort for any organization.

Directions for turning in your application:
Please turn in your application by 5PM on Thursday, February 21st, 2008to CampusCenter 105 (Dan Long’s office).
You will sign up for an interview when you turn in your application. So bring your planner and try to have a time and day in mind.
Your Tribe Guide application should consist of:
A self-designed cover page with your name and a picture of yourself.
Personal Data Form.
Your responses to the Question and Answer portion. Please place your name in the upper right-hand corner of each page.
Please staple all of your application together.
You do not need to turn in the first page of the application.This page contains important information, including dates and Tribe Guide Expectations. You need to keep this information for future reference!
