International contest for short videos related to museums

Contest Regulations

1. Entries are supposed to be narratives in video format, related to museums and produced from 1 January 2014 onwards. Videos must be in English or with English subtitles. Videos in different languages without English subtitles won’t be accepted. The maximum length required is of about 10 minutes. Every museum can submit only one video. The final judgment on the pertinence of the content presented is anyway a firm and unquestionable prerogative of the organization.

2.The contest is open to all the different forms of videos produced by museums. In particular theMuseums in Short awards will be delivered to the best video of the following categories.

-Museums in Short Award, for short films (max. 10 min.) conceived to promote museums, permanent or temporary exhibitions;

-Museums in Spot Award, for short presentations (30-90 sec.) conceived to promote museums on the web;

-Museums in Short - Special Prize ICOM Milan 2016, for short films (max 10 min.) related to the subject of 2016 ICOM General Conference: "Museums and Cultural Landscapes".

-Public Special Mention, online users can express their preference voting the best amongst the shortlisted videos through the online voting platform available on the website

3. Registration is free of charge.

4. Participants are museums. The file of the video must be sent online (via WeTransfer or similar services) to the following e-mail address: . Please, try not to exceed the maximum size file of 2GB. Deadline: May 31st 2016.

5. By applying to the competition, every museum gets responsible for the content of the submitted work. Participants allow the uploading of the videos, as well as trailers or frames of the work, to the dedicated website and the related medias of every member of the Organising committee. The organization reserves the right to request to the shortlisted participants additional information for promotional purposes.

6.During the month of June 2016, a commission formed by experts in the field of cinema and museums will select the finalists. The winners of the Awards will be voted by a Jury of excellence .

7. The awards ceremony will take place in Milan (Italy), as part of the 24th General Conference of ICOM. The complete program and the date of the award ceremony will be published on the websites and

EMA – European Museum Academy

The European Museum Academy was established on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the loss of the distinguished museologist Kenneth Hudson (1916-1999) by a group of professionals active inthe museum field and the cultural sector in general.

EMA is engaged in developing researches in the field of museum innovation, stimulating new ideas and experiences and offering its services as an incubator for new talents and new programmes in order to improve the quality of museum services and of the museological discourse at the European level. The academy identifies in museums a relevant tool to face socio-economic and cultural challenges in contemporary society and stresses the role of the modern museum as a meeting place and as a most promising forum for the development of scientific debate, creativity, social cohesion and cultural dialogue.

FONDAZIONE BRESCIA MUSEI

Fondazione Brescia Musei is one of the first management projects in Italy, which deals with a huge and articulated cultural program: its aim is to enhance the monumental and artistic heritage of the city of Brescia and its territory.

Brescia Musei manages a rich museum system with a high educational and ethic value.

Fondazione Brescia Musei also manages the Nuovo Eden, a cinema placed in the Carmine quarter in Brescia. The cinema is a prestigious project which has positively transformed the social relationships existing in the area before: through its unifying experience it has contributed in inverting the degradation process of this area, one of the most beautiful and ancient of the city.

The cinema proposes d’essai films, contemporary and independent cinema, but also meetings with cinema protagonists, special revues, short films festivals and works of young up-and-coming directors.

musil – museo dell’industria e del lavoro, Brescia

The musil - museum of industry and labour of Brescia is housed in three locations: the museum of hydroelectricity in Cedegolo (Camonica Valley), the museum of iron in San Bartolomeo (Brescia) and the museum of cinema and cartoons with open storage in Rodengo Saiano (not far from Brescia). These museums aim to tell the story of Italian industrialization through original artifacts from all the main sectors (printing, cinema, communication technology, mechanics, textile, leather, food, etc.) and biographies of women and men at work. The impact of industry on society is outlined by showing consumption, everyday life and territory in the industrial age. This unique heritage includes posters, photos, videos and machines. Musil tries also to document the many facets of contemporary work, supporting scientific research and artistic explorations related to technological world and material culture.
