NEED AT LEAST 1 CITATION THAT CAN BE FOUND ON GOOGLE. ANSWER MUST BE 450 WORDS. WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS ONE BY THURSDAY EVENING Over the years, government has begun to add warnings and/or disclosures, as well as, watchdog features on the media to identify inappropriate content. Do you think that the media should be censored or should they responsibly monitor themselves? Please research examples on how these features are used and on what forms of media when discussing your opinions. Be sure to cite your research in APA format and include your word count.

In effect already there is censorship of media (defined broadly as books, publications, expressions, broadcasts by radio, television, and internet, movies, images, pictures, speeches, and video) when it fulfills certain criteria that defines it to be illegal, in violation of human rights, or sanctioning or promoting criminal or harmful activity. These activities could include such things as child pornography, solicitation of minors, and things designed to solicit harm to the general public(Laws.com, 2015).

So far, I feel the clauses concerning harm to the general public have been fairly loosely interpreted, as there are many movies depicting violence that are not censored, and rightly so. Equally rightly, though, is the censorship that is pursued and undertaken of child pornography and solicitation. Some may argue that it is simply freedom of speech, but anything that violates another person’s human or civil rights cannot be viewed as freedom of speech. The government, in my opinion, has not only the right to censor such things, but the obligation to censor them.

In a poll taken of Internet readers, 31 percent said the government should censor the media, while 69 percent said absolutely not(Debate.org, 2015). While I do not feel the 69 percent considers the issue of human rights’ violations, I agree with a stance that many of them make, and feel it must be taken into consideration, as well. One of my favorite books is George Orwell’s 1984, a dystopian tale about a society heavily censored and monitored. When imagining how that society got to the point it did, one has to wonder at the part censorship most certainly played. It probably started small, with the censorship of this societal ill or that one, and mushroomed slowly before people were even aware of the evil that was being perpetrated. Before they fully comprehended what had taken place, Big Brother was doing the thinking for them, and telling them what was acceptable or not acceptable to view, think, and speak of.

Censoring troublesome news, forward-thinking ideas, harsh video games, curse words, and the like, in my opinion, is something that should be undertaken by parents and caregivers rather than the government. When this occurs, it is done with love and family and cultural values, rather than some remote or political agenda. The media has gradually responded to concerns of parents through the years by conducting a limited form of censorship by adding warnings and disclosures to things like music, video games, movies, and internet content. These warnings let parents know that the content of the media may not be appropriate for an audience under a certain age, and then leaves it in the parents’ hands as to how they want to handle the situation.

Hi Arouis! I wanted to give you my personal email— . JA has told me that I cannot negotiate my prices with customers via bonus any more…I believe because they make more through deposit than through bonus. It has just gotten ridiculous. I’m not allowed to tell my customers that JA takes 50% of the deposit amount, so if you have a huge paper that would cost me $150 to work on, I would essentially need to charge you $300 without being able to explain to you why I have to charge that much…I just come off looking like a greedy guts. I hate it—hate charging that amount, hate not being able to explain the system. If you are interested, I am happy to work with you privately and charge you less. If not, it does not make a difference to me—I just wanted to explain the pricing structure to you. If you do not mind, though, please communicate your response to me via email, as I am not supposed to share this with you. Thanks! –Lori
