Creaser, Chelack and Silagy Are Top MJT Scholarship Winners
The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is pleased to announce the MJT Scholarship recipients for 2014, with Emily Creaser of Edmonton, AB, as winner of the $1,000 MJT Cleveland Golf Canada Scholarship.
Creaser, a Grade 12 student at Harry Ainlay High School, is a junior member of Derrick Golf and Winter Club in Edmonton and is coached by PGA Professional, Adam Werbicki. She is the MJT National Girls Order of Merit Leader who claimed two first place finishes, one second and three thirds during the course of this past season on the MJT.
“Playing MJT events has allowed me to make new friends, travel to new places and to keep improving my golf game,” said Creaser, who qualified via the MJT to represent Canada in the Srixon International Junior Classic in Australia in 2013, and is competing in the MJT Boston Pizza National Championship at The Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, AZ, later this month. “Without MJT and sponsors such as Cleveland Golf Canada, none of this would have been possible.I look forward to playing golf in University and appreciate being honoured with this award.Thank you!”
Joint runners-up for the MJT Cleveland Golf Canada Scholarship, who each receive $700 towards their studies, are Andrew Chelack of Calgary, AB, and Izac Silagy of Winnipeg, MB. Chelack, an outstanding student who intends to pursue a degree in Engineering, qualified via the MJT for the Srixon International Junior Classic this year after he won the 2014 MJT Bow Valley Credit Union Classic at Banff Golf Club, and ended up second overall on the MJT Junior Boys National Order of Merit. Silagy, who won two MJT tournaments in 2014 and placed third in the MJT Juvenile Boys National Order of Merit, is a well-rounded honour roll student with interests ranging from athletics to performing arts.
Other MJT members who receive scholarship monies are Tyler Vandermeer of Ardrossan, AB, Cory Sawchuk of Prince Albert, SK, Marcus Brown of Surrey, BC, Chris Murray of Calgary, AB, and Rachel Clark of Edmonton, AB.
The MJT is proud to play a role in developing Canadian champions – in golf and in life – with 60 events across Canada including free introductory clinics, high-level single and multi-day tournaments, international qualifiers and more. MJT alumni include many Professional Tour players and PGA of Canada Professionals, as well as Canadian Amateur, National and Provincial Junior Champions. The MJT, which is now entering its 17th season, promotes the game from grassroots through to provincial, national, university and professional level.
