Applies funding for reimbursement of lost revenue due to decreased enrollment during the post-hurricane recovery period from Hurricane Rita. As a state-funded, two-year institution, the college suffered damages due to the proximity of the hurricane, which made landfall within one mile of the college.

Title: SUNO HERA Project
Applies funding to construct a classroom facility to replace temporary trailers. All eleven buildings on the SUNO campus were devastated and closed as a result of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. None of the eleven buildings has been renovated to date, and all remain closed. The construction of classrooms will improve teaching and learning on campus.

Defrays losses in revenue as a result of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina to be applied to the construction of the Learning Resources Center on campus. The Learning Resources Center includes the library, media services, and learning laboratory, all of which provide instructional support for teaching and learning.

Title: Reconstruction and Remediation of Storm Affected Facilities
Continues construction and remediation work that has been ongoing since Hurricane Katrina. Funds will focus on restoring service utilities, including replacing the power and communications infrastructure damaged by the storm with underground utilities. In addition, funds will be used to bring classrooms and an old gymnasium into compliance with theAmericans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by the installing an elevator in a three-story classroom facility that was heavily damaged and renovating restroom facilities in the gymnasium that is replacing the damaged M.R. White Coliseum. Funds will also be used to restore the library facilities lost at the Waveland site of the campus.

Applies funds to defray loss of revenue and expenses resulting from Hurricane Katrina. The funds will focus on payment of essential faculty salaries, costs for reoccupancy and corrective maintenance expenses, and reimbursement for grants for students enrolled at the university. Located in one of the lowest elevation points, this historically black university suffered significant structural damage affecting all of the university’s facilities.
