Matters Arising Item 1 – Fareham Forum. Abi has not been able to make contact with Paul O’Beirne, it was suggested that funding has been split and it may be worth contacting One Community..
Item 2 – Doorstep Crime Campaign – Sally Adams Hampshire Constabulary Item still ongoing. Abi is having difficulties contacting Sally.
Item 5 – HAOPF Nominations for – Hitting the Cold Spots Tender
Jean clarified at a previous meeting that she will represent HAOPF. The contract is currently out to tender. Updates will be given when they are available. / Abi

3 / Health Watch Hampshire – Madeline Close
Madeline presented to the Forum details of the care home satisfaction survey. A copy of the presentation is attached.
Richard Strong asked if this survey is strictly for relatives and friends. Madeline confirmed that anyone can complete the survey and they will shortly be running focus groups with care workers and other professionals to capture further information.
Chris Cornwell asked if hospitals were required to provide information of complaints to Health Watch Hampshire. Madeline confirmed they had no obligation to do this however HWH have recently written a report detailing recommendations to hospitals on their complaints procedures.
4 / Future Provision of Support – Action Hampshire
Chris Cornwell informed members that a meeting was held with Karen Ferris, Abi Walton, Jean Buckle and himself to discuss future support for the Forum. It was decided at a previous meeting between Karen Ferris and Sue Dovey that additional support could be provided in the form of;
- Priority Planning
- Training
- Support to become independent
- Support to feed into HCC decisions
- Affiliations
- Funding / activity bids support
- Administrative Support
It was decided that further clarification was required and that a briefing paper should be provided to HAOPF members in advance of the next meeting.
Suzanne Pepper requested that it be minuted that she felt unhappy and confused that only the chair and vice chair of the Forum had been briefed in advance and that all members should have been given prior warning of this offer.
It was suggested that forum members look at the constitution and think about what they want out of this Forum and how they see the future. If they could do this as individuals and group. This will be consolidated into one paper by Chris Cornwell. / All
5 / Hampshire Independent Equalities Forum (HIEF)
Madeline kindly updated the Forum as she also sits on HIEF. The co-ordinators are currently networking to organise an event. A survey was produced requesting respondents to think about how the Forum should continue – response numbers are currently unknown for this.

6 / International Day for Older People
Suzanne reported that Gosport OPF was going to have a month of events to celebrate OP which will include the annual Infofest event and up to a further 39 events. It is planned to issue their information guide as part of the celebration
Chris Cornwell reported that their events will be the first intergenerational activity with the entertainment being provided by FarnboroughSchool’s Swing Band. They will be playing tunes from the 1930s onwards that most will know and can sing along to. This to be followed by a hot 2 course lunch provided by a local caterer. With support from the Parish Council and Hart Rotary the cost has been kept down to £6 per person.
Graham Finlayson informed the meeting that his Forum will be holding its usual variety show; tickets will cost £6.00 per head.

We have had an offer of ballet tuition for the over 60’s!!!
Eastleigh and Southern Parishes Older Peoples Forum
Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Jane Welsh, chaired the AGM in July at which there were 50 members present. A full committee was elected for the next year. The afternoon session was led by Hedge End Breathe Easy Group who took them through a variety of chair exercises.
The September Open Meeting included a presentation by Suzie Maidment – Stroke Association Communication Officer – who explained types of stoke, those at risk, and preventative measures.
Averages of 20–25 stay for the lunches, now they have been re-introduced. The meals are cooked on site and cost only £5 for two courses.
The September newsletter carried the details of the recent Moorgreen Survey which has been sent to WHCCG for consideration. Some 900 people responded in hard copy and electronic form and from the question “What services do you want” the top three replies were: Walk - in Centre (799); Minor Injuries Clinic (711) and Physiotherapy (607). The survey was carried out as WHCCG did not feel that a petition with over 2000 signatures provided suitable evidence of what was required at Moorgreen. Interesting to note that since the HAOPF meeting it has been announced that Bitterne Walk –in Centre will close!
Following a request from a member, enquiries regarding LIFELINE have been conducted and ESPOPF are in the early stages of carrying out a survey on these services.
Gosport Older Peoples Forum

•Hampshire Network of User Led organisations where there is a drive to set up an access group and to look at the issues of ULO becoming future proofed- we had a training session from Action Hampshire.
Hartley Wintney and District Over 55s Forum
Our Holiday at Home initiative was a moderate success, mainly due to members being away. However it will happen again next year. At the next Committee Meeting in November members will be asked whether there is anything new that we might do next year.
We are expecting that our Christmas Day lunch, which is open to all ages and from anywhere, will be a success again.
Basingstoke and Deane Over 55s Forum
We are in the process of creating role definitions for the key officers on our committee to ease the impact of any requirement for an immediate handover.
The Forum is still meeting with the local council regarding changes to the bus services and following up the issue of "pavement parking" with our local MP.
We had a talk at our July Open Forum by representatives from Pensionwise and an entertaining talk on the "Ladies of the Tower" from a retired Beefeater.
The next meeting will cover the Care Act and will also include an entertaining talk by author Mel Rees.
We are continuing with our coach trips, most of which are over subscribed and our choir sang at the local Battle of Britain memorial service.

SEEFA Update
1. Dame Philippa Russell welcomed us all to the meeting and introduced the topic for the event: ‘housing and long term care’.
2. Dave Martin introduced the idea of ‘age activation’, using an example of a village community addressing their own needs for long term care by setting up a multi-stakeholder care co-operative. He urged applying common sense and ordinary wisdom to the challenges of ageing.
3. Nick Wilson talked about the need for people’s influence in decision making and service delivery and that this should be at all levels, not just at the upper tiers. SEEFA has long advocated ‘co-production’ models for the best services. ‘Patient activation’ is a concept currently being considered by the health services.
4. Philippa Russell urged that finding collaborative solutions was the way forward and we should not be afraid to design things differently. There is strength, enthusiasm and vision to be gained from working with others.
5. Jane Minter addressed the meeting on key issues for housing and long term care, giving some telling statistics on the importance of good housing, on the link between health and housing and findings on what older residents have said is important to them (Jane’s notes are available). Jane believes we need new models for housing and care and made the following points: the quantity and quality of housing stock needs improvement; people need better sources of housing information and advice; attention needs to be placed on age friendly communities; input from people themselves is needed; housing should be higher on the agenda of health and care policy. There is much scope for influencing planners and house builders.
6. Jessica Stone addressed the meeting from a care provider’s perspective. Triangle Community Services is part of the charity Friends of the Elderly (FOTE). She described the challenges the sector is facing, including pressures on funding, local shortages of good quality care services, staff recruitment and retention, ensuring service users are heard and receive the services they wish for. 7. Pam Hearne addressed the meeting on the preliminary findings of research currently underway by the University of Lancaster in conjunction with other European organisations, funded through ERASMUS. The 3 year research project is looking at carers and caring and aims to identify different patterns and approaches across different countries. Innovative methods are being used to communicate with project participants. (Pam’s presentation is available).
