A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND JOHN C. ANDERSON OF CHAPIN FOR HIS THIRTYONE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AND COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION, CONGRATULATE HIM FOR MANY OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS THROUGHOUT HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER AS A TEACHER, EDUCATOR, AND SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, AND EXTEND TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY EVERY GOOD WISH ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM CHAPIN HIGH SCHOOL.
Whereas, John C. Anderson, Principal of Chapin High School, attended Western Carolina University from 1963 to 1967, and earned a B.A. degree. From 1967 to 1968 he was employed as a Career Counselor by the North Carolina Employment Security Commission, and from 1968 to 1970, he served in the U. S. Army as an Educational Coordinator, Headquarters Division, Fort Dix, New Jersey. He returned to Western Carolina University in 1970, earning a B.S. and a M.A. in Education Administration in 1971; and
Whereas, John C. Anderson’s journey as a professional educator began at Mills River Elementary School, Mills River, North Carolina, where he was employed as a Teacher/Coach in 1970 and 1971. His early educational professional experience includes Dana Elementary School, Dana, North Carolina, where he was employed as a Teacher/Coach/Assistant Principal from 1971 to 1972, Pelham Elementary School, Pelham, North Carolina, where he served as Principal from 1972 to 1975; and
Whereas, John C. Anderson moved to South Carolina in 1975 where he served as Principal of Chapin Elementary School, from 1975 to 1980. He served as an Elementary/Middle School Accreditation Supervisor with the South Carolina Department of Education from 1980 to 1983; and
Whereas, John C. Anderson became Principal of Chapin High School in 1983. Under his leadership Chapin High School has made dramatic improvements in academics, academic programs, test scores, and individual student achievements. SAT scores improved dramatically. Leadership and service organizations have increased in number and programs. Cocurricular activities, “THOT”, “STOP”, and “Interact” have been established. Performing and visual arts programs have expanded with increased offerings to students. Chapin High School has become a deregulated school, the highest accreditation rating, and also enjoys an “All Clear” rating with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, another highest accreditation rating. Honors and awards abound for individual students, teams, programs, and the school. Athletics have expanded to include individual and team participation at virtually all grade levels in a variety of sports. State championships have been earned in baseball, cheerleading, boys cross country, girls cross country, girls tennis, volleyball, wrestling, and boys soccer. Academic, athletic, and other school facilities have been greatly improved, making Chapin High School enviable as a leader among high schools in South Carolina; and
Whereas, during his tenure as an educator, teacher, and principal of Chapin High School, John C. Anderson has supported and provided invaluable leadership to professional organizations dedicated to education. His service includes membership and leadership roles in: the South Carolina Association of Secondary School Principals, currently an executive board member; South Carolina High School League, past president; National Association of Secondary School Principals, current state delegate; ASCD, past state board member; consultant for National Blue Ribbon Schools Program; and Consultant and Chairperson for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and
Whereas, it is entirely fitting and proper that the dedication, outstanding service, and brilliant career of John C. Anderson as a professional educator be duly recognized on the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend John C. Anderson of Chapin for his thirtyone years of dedicated service and commitment to education, congratulate him for many outstanding achievements throughout his distinguished career as a teacher, educator, and school principal, and extend to him and his family every good wish on the occasion of his retirement from Chapin High School.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. John C. Anderson of Chapin.
