ISDF Factsheet

What is ISDF?

King’s College London has established the International Students’ Disability Fund to support disabled International and EU students. The expectation is that students will come prepared for study in the United Kingdom. As entry into the UK involves proving that you have enough funding to sustain yourself without recourse to Public Funds, only very specific disability-related extra costs may be considered for ISDF support.

How can ISDF help you?

The Fund aims to help eligible students to meet some of the extra costs that arise from studying at the College as a disabled student.

Examples of what the Fund can cover:

• specialist disability-related equipment

• assistive software

• non-medical helpers, such as note takers, communication support or academic assistants

• recording devices to help with lecture notes

All students will be expected to have their own laptops and other devices upon which they have depended in their home countries. The ISDF cannot be used to fund such equipment, even on a loan-basis.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible to apply if you:

• have a disability, long term medical condition or specific learning difference such as dyslexia, that impacts on your ability to access your course;

• are an EU or international student who DOES NOT have refugee or indefinite leave to remain status;

• are unable to access any funding for support from your home country;

• are on a full time undergraduate or post graduate course;

• are on a part time course that is not less than 50% of the full time course equivalent;

• are on a course that lasts at least a year.

The Fund is calculated on a needs basis according to the adjustments you require as a disabled student on your chosen course at King’s.

Any equipment purchased for use via the International Students’ Disability Fund (ISDF) is provided on a loan basis and remains the property of the College. You will need to insure all items when in your possession, and return them when your course is completed.
