Membership shall be in one of the following categories :

Professional

Graduate

Technical

Trainee

Qualification for membership to the above categories shall be :

Professional

Applicants shall :

(i) either :

§  have passed the final professional examination or be exempt therefrom

§  hold a current and valid membership of a professional institution, society or association recognised and approved by the SAAES committee

§  be registered with a professional council or other professional registration body recognised and approved by the SAAES committee.

(ii) or satisfy the SAAES committee that the applicant is capable of, and has performed the work of a kind normally carried out by a person qualified for membership under (i) above for a period of not less than 15 years in the service of a Government or firm or other body recognised and approved by the SAAES committee.

Graduate

Applicants shall hold a degree in Architecture, Engineering or Surveying from a university or other tertiary educational institution recognised by a professional institution, society or association approved by the SAAES committee.

Technical

Applicants shall hold a diploma or B-Tech in Architecture, Engineering or Surveying from a university or other tertiary educational institution recognised by a professional institution, or have been employed as an apprentice or trainee for a continuous period of not less than 5 years in a professional, Government or other office approved by the SAAES committee and have attained the technical skills necessary to perform the technical work of their profession.

Trainee

Applicants shall have studied for a minimum period of 2 years at an approved institution and / or be employed as a trainee in a professional, Government or other office approved by the SAAES committee and shall produce certification from their employers confirming eligibility and recommending membership.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Subscriptions are payable annually on 1 September. They are as follows:
