An exciting day of sports on the waters of the Amsterdam IJ
WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES AT HISWA AMSTERDAM IN-WATER BOAT SHOW 2015
In addition to the 300 or so vessels that will be berthed at the Amsterdam Marina from 1 to 6 September, the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2015 programme also features an exciting selection of watersport activities for visitors of all ages. Highlights include free sailing lessons, sea trials, manoeuvring clinics in sail and motoryachts, aquajumping, hoverboarding and SUPing. The quay offers activities such as workshops and demonstrations, boat adventure presentations and the chance to check out a KNRM Waterscooter, while the youngest visitors will enjoy the Telekids Disco. The complete programme* will be available via www.boatshowamsterdam.nl from August. * subject to change
Trial sail jetty
The trial sail jetty features various exhibitor vessels that can be tried out on the IJ waterway. Sailing under supervision of the exhibitors, visitors will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
Delta Lloyd Optimist on Tour
This year’s HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show is one of the stops of the Optimist on Tour through the Netherlands from May to September. The event offers many activities for kids including introductions to watersports such as sailing in an Optimist or canoe, waterbiking and SUPing, all under the professional supervision of expert instructors. The quay also features entertainment for the kids such as the Telekids disco.
New: Aquajumping
With the addition of aquajumping to the programme, the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2015 promises to be even more exhilarating than previous editions. A large floating air cushion (or blob) on the water invites visitors to jump, spectacularly launching those lying on the front of the cushion into the water. The cushion is approximately eight metres long and four metres wide. While professional jumpers will take part in daily demonstrations, visitors will also have a chance to make the leap during the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2015.
New: NK Aqua Jumping
The HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2015 will host the Dutch Aquajumping Championships on Saturday 5 September. Participants will be competing for the highest launch and the best tricks in the air while a jury of experts evaluates the quality of their jumps. Participation in the championships is open and registration will be available soon via www.amsterdamboatshow.nl.
Boats with a Story Pavilion
The HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2015 will also features various unique and special vessels. The Boat with a Story Pavilion exhibits sail and motoryachts of which the captains, builders or owners have wonderful stories to share. From bold building processes to world travels or a special week on the Wadden Sea: the Boat with a Story Pavilion shares a touch of adventure with the visitors on the quay. Dimitri Simons and Ewout Lubberink will bring their boat and stories of Mini Transat Team Solo and Hans Bouscholte his Volvo 60.
New: Jetpacking
Jetpacking, the latest trend in Dutch watersport, will also be part of the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2015. Feel like James Bond and enjoy the ultimate sense of freedom whilst floating above the water! The Jetpack is a small ‘backpack’ with water jets that thrusts wearers upwards and allows them to ‘fly’ above the water (the fee for a 20-minute experience is €25).
Flyboarding and hoverboarding
Many people will have seen flyboarders and hoverboarders in action and now visitors to the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2015 will have the chance to try it themselves. Both sports use a kind of snowboard on a jet stream, in which participants either spread their legs (flyboarding) or take the snowboard position (hoverboarding). The HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show will feature demonstrations by professionals as well as the chance for visitors to have a go themselves (€25 for 20 minutes).
Matchracing Max Funs by Live Your Dream Foundation
The Live Your Dream Foundation organises matchracing competitions in Max Fun 24s, with two boats competing on a short course. It is a great opportunity to see how expert sailors determine their tactics and use smart moves to win. The matchracing competition is easily visible from the quay and jetties. In addition, the Live Your Dream Foundation will use the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show to put the spotlight on the Volvo Ocean Race Campaign 2017/2018 in which it hopes to participate with a team of chronically ill people. With a donation of at least €50 and a selfie, each donor will be immortalised on the yacht’s sail.
Sailing in open sailboats, rowboats, SUPing and canoeing
The instructors from Nautiek Vaaropleidingen will provide free lessons in various types of watersports for all ages, including sailing in an Optimist, rowing, SUPing and canoeing. In the weekend there will also be lessons in Lasers. Although wetsuits will be available, visitors should bring their own swimming costumes.
Waterbiking
Canal Company will provide various waterbikes allowing visitors to see all the vessels and activities from the waterline.
Mini Practice Day: Safe Sailing
Three times a day, a motorboat with professional supervisors from a sailing school will make an educational tour of approximately one hour on the IJ waterway. The programme from Waterrecreatie Nederland is focused on the combination of professional and recreational sailing, and will discuss the situation around the Amsterdam Marina, the ferries, crossing the IJ nearby the Houthaven (mast-up route), recommended crossings for recreational vessels towards the Oranje locks, positioning on the sailing route (especially near Central Station) and much more besides. The tours will depart at 13.00, 15.00 and 17.00, and each tour can take up to ten persons.
Manoeuvring clinics on a sailyacht
Entering and leaving the box, mooring, left-handed and right-handed propeller throw; these subjects and more are the focus of this short manoeuvring clinic in a sailyacht. The instructors from De Zeezeilers van Marken will host daily free clinics on their sailyacht.
Manoeuvring clinics on a motoryacht
The editorial staff of Motorboot magazine is bringing its own vessel to the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show, offering short clinics on manoeuvring on a motoryacht for men and women alike!
KNRM waterscooter and rescue vessel
The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) is also attending the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2015: step on board a rescue vessel or check out a KNRM waterscooter from up close.
The World of the Weather
At this workshop, visitors are taken into the world of the weather. At MeteoGroup they give accurate weather forecasts to customers all over the world, who are active in various sectors. How to forecast the weather? Which available information is used? And finally; what about extreme weather conditions? These questions and more are covered in the presentations of MeteoGroup.
Radio controlled mini-boats
The magazine ZEILEN brings radio-controlled sailing to the show with their mini-sailboats by Micro Magic and Dragon Force. Besides demonstrations by sailers of MM-Sailing you can also sail your own radio-controlled sailingboat. There will be demo boats available by RC Sailing (Joure).
Maneuvering for ladies
During the show it's time for women to learn to maneuver. On a RIB and under expert supervision (provided by Raymarine) of RYA certified instructors ladies can learn the basic principles of maneuvering. If you are interested you can already sign up for the clinics through the website. During the show, you can register at the stand of Raymarine (k. 416) for a specific day and time.
