4. / Developing the Golden Mile – Councils New Core Strategy for development / Adrian Lee and Mark Frost (LBH) / To advise businesses on the councils proposed ‘core strategy’ which sets out our approach to allowing future development. This has specific provisions for the Golden Mile. / Adrian presented the group with the special strategy which focuses on prioritising the regeneration of LBH town centres (Hounslow, Brentford, Feltham and Chiswick), securing new investment in the Golden Mile, indentifying regeneration areas across the borough and using the boroughs open spaces.
Mark mentioned the Transport Model and a main priority being congestion. He suggested ways at bettering the mobile fleet by promoting the use of buses, trains and car sharing when going to and from work.
5. / Olympics – exploiting opportunities by working together on the Golden Mile / Chris Calvi-Freeman (LBH) and Catherine Warwick Wilson (GSK) / An open discussion on how businesses, the Council and TfL can work together to exploit the opportunity represented by the London Olympics. To include a discussion on dressing the Golden Mile 2012. / Catherine informed the group on what GSK were doing to prepare for the Olympics which includes speaking to GSKs HR, IT and Employment Healthcare, giving information on working from home and ways to get to work. Information has been sent to all business leaders telling them how they will be affected and have suggested ways to help people get to GSK. They have also suggested teams begin future planning. Ideas include annual leave during the games, flexible working practice and looking into changing the location of meetings by working from other sites and web sessions.
Chris notified the group on how the borough will be dressed for the Olympics, mentioning that £50,000 will be used to purchase banners which will be placed on every lamp column in Chiswick, Brentford, Hounslow, Feltham and every fourth lamp column in smaller towns including Isleworth and Heston. So far no plans have been made to dress to A4. This was followed by a discussion on how the Golden Mile could be dressed, should it be dressed and whose responsibility it was. A draft letter to be sent to LOCOG asking why the Golden Mile will not be dressed was decided and Frank Wingate has offered to write this.
The group also looked at different ways to raise awareness in businesses relating to the transport issues and travel whilst the Olympics take place.
A new section of the website on games time travel will go live soon bringing together general information with our ideas for activities and initiatives during summer 2012.
6. / Updates / Frank Wingate (West London Business) / European Mobility Week at Chiswick Park / This event took place on the 21st September and was a success for all those who took part. Attendance numbers were higher than the previous year and all participants including new companies Bike Republic and Global Action Plan said that they would be happy to take part again next year.
Attendees did seem to be more of those from Chiswick park rather than the Golden Mile Group and Catherine mentioned that she did not receive the advertising until a few days before the event. For future events the sending out of information needs to be looked at.
