AGD- PACE APPROVAL GUIDELINES
- Officer’s duties and descriptions are listed in each club and in the bylaws of the academy. We will follow the directives as noted in the NEW CLUB PROTOCOL, which is followed by each study club in the academy.
- The Institute is an integral part of the academy and therefore is also AGD accredited and will have AGD logo/brand printed on all promotional materials as well as evaluation forms. (see 5.m)
- Patient Protection
- The Academy must assure patient prior to treatment that the operator has the basic skill and knowledge and expertise necessary to perform the treatment techniques being taught in the course.
- Appropriate equipment and instruments must be available and in good working order.
- Adequate and appropriate arrangements and or facilities for emergency and postoperative care must exist.
- The academy must treat patients within the existing dental licensure laws.
- The academy to assume responsibility for completion of treatment by a qualified clinician, should any question of the course participant’s competence arise.
- Sufficient clinical supervision must be provided during treatment to assure that the procedures are performed competently. The academy must assume responsibility for providing the necessary post-course treatment, either through the practitioner who treated the patient during the course, or through some alternative arrangement.
- Academy members to screen patients to meet course objectives and carry adequate liability protection.
- Patients seen at academy operations must have the following.
- Informed consent is required for all patients operated on in the study club and at the Institute. The language to include that this is a training situation, the nature and extent of the treatment to be rendered, any benefits or potential harm that may result from the procedure, available alternatives, and their right to discontinue treatment.
- Preoperative medical/dental history
- Preoperative radiographs
- Preoperative photographs
- Preoperative dental charting
- Photographs of completed treatment
- Postoperative radiographs, if indicated
- “After an agreed-upon time needed to complete patient treatment, the group will reconvene with the course director/instructor. Utilizing records developed during treatment, each participant will make a complete case presentation to the group of approximately 15-20 minutes. The presentation must fulfill the assignment given and the documentation criteria specifies. Following the presentation, the group will be allowed to challenge the presentation. The course director/instructor will critique each presentation.” AGD. This would be our normal critique time by the mentor.
- Publicity-Annual Meeting Publicity must be informative and not misleading. It must include the following:
- Course title
- A description of course content
- The educational objectives
- A description of teaching methods to be used
- Costs
- The name of the Academy provider and contact person
- Course instructors(s) and their qualifications
- Refund and cancellation policies
- Location
- Date
- Specifics as to approvals granted and credits available
- List any co-program providers or agencies providing financial support
- Use AGD PACE logo/brand with the any promotional materials: Academy of General Dentistry
Approved PACE Program Provider
All PACE-approved continuing education providers are required to submit FAGD/MAGD Credit

- Annual Meeting Duties
- CE credits from their courses for their attendees to the AGD within 30 days. This requirement addresses a growing number of legal and professional requirements in the industry, especially relating to dental licenses. Recording in this way will insure accurate and permanent records of attendees at each activity. Go to select from the menu on the right, enter 215177 as your username, enter your password (default password for new users is agdpace). Or submit via mail, or e-mail roster to AGD, attention membership services. A copy of this roster is to be submitted to the Secretary for permanent record keeping.
- All recipients must be issued a CE verification of attendance letter of verification for their personal records. A verification/completion code is given at the end of the course and is extra assurance to licensing boards that they complete the entire program. It is a random code assigned by you and should be included with your roster submission.
- You need a course evaluation form, which assesses the educational objectives, quality of the instructional process and the participant’s perception of enhanced professional effectiveness. It will provide feedback to the instructor, assess his effectiveness. See attachment
- The roster of AGD participants will be submitted to the academy secretary for permanent records keeping. It will include the name of the meeting, time, title of the specific subject and course instructor or lecturer, clinical participation or lecture or both, and a course completion code
- Have speakers read and sign AGD declaration and conflict of interest. Have speaker fill out objectives of the course form. This sheet can be handed out at the class.
- Have any sponsoring companies sign AGD forms
- Commercial or Promotional Conflict of Interest “All activities of the Richard V. Tucker Study Club Academy are independent of any commercial influence, either direct or indirect.” If any commercial relationships exist they are fully disclosed to participants. Outside or commercial support that is customary and proper is payment of reasonable honoraria, reimbursement of out-of –pocket expenses for faculty and mentors, modest meals, airfare or social events held as part of the educational activity.
- Study Club Duties
- Assign a permanent person to handle CE duty. Since not all members are AGD affiliated, they need not participate. It is important though to remember that various states have CE credit requirements of which these will apply.
- Record attendance and hours that each participant earned at each clinical session and keep a permanent record.
- Send in the AGD credits to AGD and to each state where applicable using our provider number 215177.
- Have patients sign informed consent form
Thank you everyone! We have earned this benefit and it is a privilege to have and maintain it. At the excellence level the whole Academy operates, it is essential to retain it. It is reflective of the high respect given to the Tucker Technique in Operative Dentistry.
