FROM THE EDITOR
Due to recent developments I need to clarify my acceptance at the May meeting to take over the newsletter. At that time the May newsletter should have already gone out. I agreed only to go forward and did not agree to attempt to fill in the news gaps from the months our members did not receive a newsletter.
Also a newsletter doesn’t go out during the two months Mayflower Lodge is dark. You will receive a newsletter from August to May. If you have news or information during our dark months you may contact me until the middle of July and it will be included in the August letter. Contact me by phone or text at 310 710 5695.
I hope that clarifies any confusion and misunderstanding regarding the publishing of the newsletter.

MAYFLOWER NEWS
In April we had our annual New Member Initiation and Luncheon. We welcomed eighteen new members. It was alovely day of getting to know our new members and visitors.
This year Mayflower Lodge turned 91 years old. About 65 members and guests attended the luncheon celebration at the Torrance Hilton Double Tree Inn. It was a fun filled afternoon and the food was excellent. At the event four scholarships were awarded to Mayflower Lodge scholars. Congratulationsto the recipients and their proud families: The scholarship recipients are member Scott Alexander, the grandson of members Annie Andersson and Victor Long. Members Aimee and Marissa Elder, daughters of Mayflower member Ginny Elder and granddaughters of members Carolyn and Al Richmond. Aimee and Marissa are the great-granddaughters of long time members the late Frida and George Blake. Annika Spaberg daughter of member Kristin Spaberg. Annika is the granddaughter of Past District Master Gunlog Spaberg and her husband Gary. All four recipients have impressive academic records and are certain to do well in their college careers. It is an honor for Mayflower Lodge to support these students in their academic aspirations. Thanks to Christopher Alexander and Gregg Elder for the pictures of the recipients included at the end of this newsletter.
Vasa Park Association assigned Mayflower Lodge to man the breakfast booth at Marknad this year. We need volunteers to make pancakes and others to service the customers, man the cashier station, ready the condiments and assist in various other tasks. There will be a sign up sheet for this task at the August meeting. If you are unable to attend the August meeting please text or call Ann Hellgren at (310) 710-5695to volunteer.
MAYFLOWER HOLDING COMPANY REPORT
The long time occupant of the downstairs office gave notice this spring of his intention to vacate. At this time the unit has been painted and a new set of blinds have been installed. Other improvements are in process. The Holding Company Board is in the process of discussing the possibilities for the use of the vacant downstairs room of the Lodge and will bring their suggestions before a Mayflower meeting at the appropriate time.

HEARTS AND FLOWERS
This spring Uno Kasperson underwent surgery. After a stint in rehab and physical therapy Uno is feeling and looking great.
At the beginning of May member Gayle Stephens required a total knee replacement. Some issues developed as a result of the surgery. Husband Roger says healing has been a slow and arduous process, but she is getting stronger.
About a year ago Carolyn Richmond had a triple bypass and is now recuperated. She and Al attended Mayflower’s 91st Anniversary Dinner. Carolyn looked wonderful and says she is feeling well again.
Our sympathy to Elaine and Joe Janssen on the loss of Elaine’s sister Marion (Mim) Gibson and to the Lovgren family on the loss of Lennart(Lennie) Lovgren. Our sympathy to Connie Osterlund on the death of her husband Charles(Chuck) June 14 and to Kurt and Britt Olofsson. Kurt and Chuck were cousins.
On the first day of his vacation Kjell Hellberg took a tumble while visiting Budapest. He spent several hours in the ER before being released with the report of no damage to previous back or hip surgeries, however he was he was in major hip pain for the entire vacation abroad and continues to heal at home.
