Job Summary:
The qualified R/D Engineer (Glass Technology) in the Fiber Glass Fundamental Science team
will lead and support research and technical programs aimed at developing new fiber glass
melting and forming technologies for new glass compositions as well as improving existing fiber
glass melting and forming processes. This position will be responsible for exploring new ways
to make fiber glass, both from the chemistry and processing angles. The successful candidate
will have sound scientific understanding of glass chemistry, melting and forming and will be
capable of bringing scientific concepts from the lab to commercialization in manufacturing. She
or he will assist with equipment and process design and design of experiments to determine
suitability of techniques proposed for glass melting and forming systems. This engineer has also
to provide a wide variety of routine and non-routine technical services in support of professional
engineering and scientific research and scientific activities, including fiber manufacturing plant
support. She or he should be capable of working independently or in concert with other
scientists or project leaders to plan, analyze, and document activities involving the use of learned
skills especially in the field of glass chemistry and technology.

• Leading efforts to develop high temperature and/or low energy glass melting and fiber
forming platform ranging from high throughput direct draw to ultra-fine yarn.
• Exploring new melting processes, techniques, and methods for making higher strength
and other new specialty fiber glass.

forming process and improving existing melting and fiber forming technologies.
• Piloting fiber forming for new and different glass compositions.

Support the R&D team by leading the identification and development of specialty glass materials for electronic materials applications, such as thick-films and ceramic tape casting.
