AftonFFA Wins State FFA Agronomy Career Development Event

STILLWATER, Okla. — Members of the AftonFFA Chapter won firstplace in the State FFA Agronomy Career Development Event during the 2018Oklahoma FFA Career Development Events at Oklahoma State University April 28.

Team memberswereTuff Johnson, Alli Clayton, Tyler Ferrisand Baily Fields.In individual placings, Johnsonearned first place, while Clayton and Ferrisplacedfourth and ninth, respectively.

This team will represent Oklahoma in the National Agronomy Career Development Event at the National FFA Convention in October.

The Afton agricultural education instructor and FFA adviser is Joe Wright.

The agronomy career development event consists of seed analysis, grain grading, and plant and seed identification.

The OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences hosted the contest. The Gooding Law Firm and O. Clifton Gooding will provide a cash award to the team for expenses related to participating in the national contest. This contest was sponsored in memory of Hal Gooding.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education system. With more than 27,000 members and 360 chapters, the Oklahoma FFA Association is the fourth-largest state FFA association.
