CHAIR’S REPORT - 2016
Another year has gone by, and what a year for the practice with the merger finally going ahead on November the 1st. It’s a year during which we lost our Treasurer Tony Moffatt, who sadly passed away. For various reasons, Vicky Black, Joanna Lovell, and Kirsty Beasley all stepped down. We welcomed Rebecca back following the birth of her daughter Sophia, and said goodbye to Vicky Scarre who stepped ably into Bex’s metaphorically giant shoes!
MERGER & THE PPG
It was hoped that the patient groups from the two practices would merge - initially holding all meetings at Brough as it is the only place with a room large enough. It was also decided not to replace members who left, in order to keep the total number at 30. Shortly after the merger, Neil Hindhaugh, chair of the Holme Bubwith PRG resigned, assuring me that it had nothing to do with the merger, but he had other intereststo pursue. I think it’s because he supports Sunderland and I support Newcastle!!!!! I e-mailed the remaining members through the then Practice Manager Alison Kirk inviting them to our next meeting, but rather disappointingly, none replied or attended. However, we’ve recently been joined by Janine Cooper and Annie Dee Hughes representing Holme Bubwith. Dr Keith Richardson also attends as a partner.
NURSING AID FUND
Following the sad death of Tony Moffatt, the role of Treasurer is once again vacant. Following a meeting at the bank, it was decided that the signatories will now be Rebecca Dawson, Dawn White and myself – with any two to sign. We have received book sales money from the surgeries and have bought the play stations for the three surgeries waiting rooms (these will show up in next year’s accounts). The balance of our account stands at a healthy £7,850.73
We had a message of thanks from the INR machines from Practice Nurse Liz Starr. She said it’s had a very positive effect on the lives of many patients.
PRESENTATIONS
We were given presentation by Natalie Belt on the Health Trainer Project. Debbie Needham & Karen Graham talked to us about the roles of Pharmacists and Dispensers. Sally Ann Spencer Gray told us about the role of the CCG. And Carol Selby gave a presentation on the Complaints Review and Policy.
LITTLE WEIGHTON
No major progress in the past year, but we have always been kept up to date with any developments.
FLU CLINICS
This year, we joined the Patient Champions to give assistance at both surgeries Thank you to Colin Boothby for collating the list of volunteers.
INVOLVEMENT
The Practice continues to involve us in various aspects of the business such as staff appointments, DNAs, patient online records, bereavement cards, CQC visits, building bid updates, and content of the waiting room screens, I’ve attended two patient complaints and Colin Boothby one. And the formidable Veronica Ellis has been participated in several interviews for potential new members of staff.
PADDY HALL
Paddy has been involved as a non-executive Director of Yorkshire Health Partners - a growing federation of GP practices. Working with the CCG, we have been encouraged to develop a ‘FED of Feds’, a grouping encompassing all the practices, and designed to be a providing partner arm for primary care. We have been involved in a major and ongoing procurement exercise with City Health Care Partnership (CHCP) and Humber NHS Foundation Trust (HNHSFT) as competing potential partners in the delivery of community care across the East Riding. This is a huge £35 million pound contract for the next five years, and we will be working with whichever of the lead providers wins in October.
MOLESCROFT
In December Paddy Hall and I visited the troubled Beverley Molescroft practice to talk to their newly reformed patient Partnership Group, offering them advice based on our experience. We shared our presentation with this group and it was well received.
BREAST SCREENING AT HOSM & BUBWITH
A letter was sent by the PPG to NHS England regarding the withdrawal of the mobile Breast Screening van from HOSM. We have yet to receive a reply.
