Spring Fling/2015 Conference Ideas:

  • Common Core Implementation
  • With Teachers and Collaborations between Schools and Public Libraries
  • Collection Development to support Common Core
  • Connecting Nonfiction with fiction and how to select
  • Partnerships between public libraries and schools
  • Need more Interaction with teachers
  • Outreach to schools, including on-site programming at schools
  • How to connect libraries with schools
  • How to partner with schools to utilize their resources, for example the school computer labs
  • Recommendations on how to be involved at school board meetings
  • Technology integration into library services and programs
  • Teacher Track with conference
  • Asking about materials for schools
  • Teaching about online materials
  • Discussion of lack of school librarians – possibly with a speaker from the CA Department of Education
  • Suggestion to host two Spring Fling sessions, one in Northern CA and one in the South or webinar. Majority preferred live programs, maybe Skype?
  • Special Needs programming, Long Beach PL has a new ‘Special Connections” corner for children with autism/autism spectrum disorders

  • YSIG Board will generate a survey asking members about their social media expectations for the interest group while we await the CLA Board Policy on the rules of conduct.
