SPRING AHEAD! SUNDAY MARCH 11TH - DAY LIGHT SAVINGS TIME

Kindergarten NEWS- Ms. Jeana

It is almost the end of the month, it is going by so fast. The students celebrated the hundredth day of school on February 21st. The students made a recipe for trail mix by counting to 100 for each ingredient. They had a lot of fun counting and making the treat. The students have started swimming lessons and they are working hard. They are being very respectful to the instructor. We are starting a social studies unit on Minnesota state symbols. Keep reading at home and working in their spelling words.

Thanks, Ms. Jeana

4th – 6th Class

Our classroom added a new student. His name is Aanakwad Redix and he’s in the fifth grade. All the children are glad to have him in the classroom and this brings are class back to nine students. Welcome Aanakwad! We started swimming lessons and the children seem to be enjoying the time in the pool. In math we have been learning about angles and will be using protractors to measure angles. In reading we continue to read from the Treasures textbooks and the Time for Kids magazines, but we also read articles from K12 Reader and Reading K-12. The weather looks as if it might begin to warm up soon and that means we’ll be gearing up for sugar bush. We’re all looking forward to spending time gathering and boiling sap. Another event that is coming up is the science fair. So, parents please be ready to help your child/children with their projects.

Boozhoo!

This month has been fun, we started our Traditional Winter Stories and the students are really getting into the stories we have told. K-1 acts out every story and it is fun to watch them acting like Raccoons, Bears and Foxes while retelling the story through a play. I am working on changing some of our stories into screen plays. Second and third grade is working on their rendition of “The Creation Story” and they have already picked their parts. We would like to perform this play for parents and maybe the community. I am working on putting together a lesson for 4-6th graders. It is a lesson on Ojibwe constellations. I will be teaching it sometime next week.

I would welcome any Parent/Grandparent who would like to come in and tell a story that they know!
