Spectrum San DiegoIntroducesSentryScope™
The first ultra-high resolution video surveillance system, capable of capturing up to 21 million pixels per image
San Diego, Calif. – January 27, 2003 – Spectrum San Diego, Inc., a leader in the development of imaging solutions for the security industry, today introduced SentryScope.Providing unsurpassed resolution over large areas, SentryScope provides security personnel with the capability of identifying suspicious people, items, and activity through surveillance video.
“Today’s conventional CCTV products must be zoomed into a small area at exactly the right time to provide useful video”, said Steve Smith, President and CEO of Spectrum San Diego. “With a single SentryScope system, an area of 250 feet wide can be monitored with ultra-high resolution stored images. Security personnel can review the surveillance record bydigitally zooming into any sub-region ofthe monitored area, and obtain detailed evidence of suspicious activity and/or crime.SentryScope provides up to 250 times greater resolution than today’s CCTV cameras. Security personnel no longer have to worry about missing something.”
Vertical markets such as government, airports, ground transportation, utilities, chemical production plants, entertainment (theme parks, arenas, and stadiums), ports and harbors, and law enforcement are expected to be early adopters of SentryScope. Existing installations of conventional CCTV products can be augmented with SentryScope. Hot spots or critical areas that require 100% coverage in ultra-high resolution can be covered by a SentryScope system increasing the video coverage at the customer site.
SentryScopeconsists of a camera in an all-weather enclosure, power supply, and a fully configured personal computer. Advanced linescan and digital signal processing technologies are utilized to achieve ultra-high resolution. Each image is comprised of up to 10,240 vertical scan lines, each consisting of 2,048 pixels for a total of up to 21 million pixels per image. The digital signal processing engine assembles the image, performs compression, packetizes the image data, and transmits the data over a dedicated Fast Ethernet link to the PC. SentryWare™ software running on the PC processes, stores, displays, and enhances the images and provides the user interface to security personnel.
Advanced compression techniques and other system features maximize storage, such as operating SentryScope on a weekly calendar, turning the camera on via an external trigger, or internal motion detection triggering the camera.File maintenance features are available to prevent the accidental deletion of critical images. Image enhancement tools such as brightness, contrast, gamma, sharpening, and adaptive contrast are available to highlight and identify items of interest in the monitored area.
SentryWare can operate in a network mode. Each SentryScope camera is connected to a dedicated PC. These PCs can be placed on a network allowing a remote version of SentryWarelocated in a central facility to access the video record from multiple cameras.
There is no special training required to install or operate SentryScope. Knowledge of low voltage power connections, Fast Ethernet cabling, and a basic knowledge of the Windows® operating system are all that is required to install and operate the system. SentryWare’s user interface has been designed for ease of use and has on-line help capabilities to make the operator’s job easy.
SentryScopewill be available in limited quantities in February with full production planned for March. SentryScope will be sold through a network of manufacturer representatives directly to systems integrators.
