CONESTOGA PUBLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING

November 2nd , 2016

1.  Welcome and Introduction

-  Mrs. Buchner welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked all the parents for a great start to our school year.

2.  Increased Parent Involvement in School Council Meetings

-  Discussion ensued regarding how to increase number of parents’ attendance in School Council Meetings

-  Different strategies for this purpose were discussed such as distributing notices to parents informing them about school council at parent teacher interviews, arranging guest speakers for presentations on different topics etc. to motivate more and more parents to get involved in these meetings.

3.  Principal’s Report

i.  Upcoming Events

-  Nov 4 –Picture retake day

-  Nov 8-10 – Grade 4 CCAT testing

-  Nov 11 – Remembrance Day Assembly (10:40) -parents are welcome to attend this assembly

-  Nov 11 – Progress reports go home

-  Nov 16-17 – Dental Screening for JK, SK, Gr2 and Gr 4 – There is a new format for Dental Screening - parents who do not wish thattheir child(ren) to participate in dental screening are required to either go online or call peel health dept. ( website and phone number both mentioned on the form) advising them of the reason.

-  Nov 17 – Parent-teacher interviews (afterschool)

-  Nov 18 – Parent-teacher interviews, No school for students

-  Nov 22-24 Scientists in the Classroom for Kindergarten

-  Nov 25 – Grade 5 trip to Queen’s Park

ii.  EQAO results for 2015-2016

-  Reading = 57%

-  Writing 61%

-  Math 45%

-  Continue to focus on math to improve performance on EQAO.

-  Recognize that overall results will be skewed due to the 3 specialized programs at theschool- Primary Communications and ASD classes.

4.  FINANCE REPORT

-  After paying $650 to cover the cost for the presenter at the Grade 1-2 Math Night in October, have a balance of $387.56 in our account.

5.  OTHER BUSINESS

-  Conestoga is transition to become a Cashless School. Further information will be sent home as we move towards implementation of on-line payment for school activities and trips

-  Next Meeting Jan 11, 2017 @ 6:45p.m.
