ABBEY CHARITABLE TRUST 2007
The Abbey Charitable Trust can only make donations to registered, excepted or exempt charities and Industrial & Provident societies but only if they are founded under charitable, not membership, rules.
Only projects that meet one (or more) of the following three priorities to help disadvantaged people are eligible for funding:
· Education and training: this does not have to be formal training or lead to a qualification but could be part of lifelong learning;
· Financial advice to help people manage their money: this priority would include giving advice and helping disadvantaged people to take control of their money;
· Community regeneration: this would include projects where different parts of the community work together to help improve the local area.
They want to make a lasting difference with their donations, so whatever you apply for must be suitable for one-off funding. They like funding tangible items such as equipment, workbooks, training materials, guides and other capital items and are now able to fund salaries and sessional worker fees (to a max of 50% of the value of the donation and is appropriate for one-off funding). They prefer to fund a complete element of a project and will not make a partial donation to a much larger appeal.
Most grants will be between £500 and £4,000. They operate a rolling programme so there are no deadlines and you can apply at any time of the year.
To make applications simpler, applicants simply need to write a letter on the official headed notepaper of your charity. BBC CHILDREN IN NEED
BBC Children in Need welcomes applications for good quality, carefully planned, projects, which show a clear focus on children in order to change their lives for the better. These applications can be from: Self-help groups; Voluntary organisations; or Registered charities. Applicants should be properly constituted, non-profit organisations. The children they help are aged 18 years and under, and live in the United Kingdom. You should only apply for a grant if it will benefit children who are disadvantaged by: any kind of disability; behavioural or psychological problems; living in poverty or situations of deprivation; illness, distress, abuse or neglect Next Closing Date is 30 November 2007.

BREAKFAST CLUB PLUS AWARDS 2007
If you would like to win £1,500 and national recognition for your club, then why not enter this year's Breakfast Club Plus Awards! This year there will be 5 award categories: Community involvement; Nutrition; Achieving sustainability; Added value activities and Improving emotional health and wellbeing and they will be looking for clubs that can demonstrate innovation or great practice in each of these areas.
There will be one national winner in each category (winning £1,500 each) and two runners up in each category(receiving £650 each). Two highly commended in each category will also receive free subscription to ContinYou's Schools ETC magazine for one year.Entries open on 1 October 2007. Final date for entries is 30 November 2007 and winners will be announced on 31 January 2008. All winning schools will be contacted on or before this date to confirm their prize. CHARITIES' ONLINE ACCOUNTS AWARDS 2007
The Charities' Online Accounts Awards are only open to organisations with accounts drawn up in accordance with the charities' SORP or other Charity Commission guidance for small charities and have been designed to reward charities that are showing their commitment to transparency by publishing their financial information online. Charities will be entered into one of five categories:
· top 100 fundraising charities listed in Charity Trends (automatically entered);
· charities with income over £2m;
· charities with income between £500,000 and £2m;
· charities with income between £100,000 and £499,999;
· charities with income below £100,000.
There is also a new category for 2007: the New Impact Reporting category (supported by the Charity Commission) to reward the charity which demonstrates the most effective use of impact reporting with online reports and accounts. There are also prizes of £5,000 for the charity judged to have the best annual report and accounts in its income category.
Entries must be received by the Chairman of the Judges at CAF no later than Friday 16 November 2007. Entrants for the Awards will be expected to have complied with the best practice at the time of preparing their accounts and must submit the most up-to-date copy of their accounts. Only online reports and accounts will be accepted and judged (no paper copies) and accounts should be an interactive part of the website, or a PDF format or downloadable Word document. They must also remain online and not be altered in any way over the judging period (16 November 2007 – 19 March 2008).
Technical screeners will check and mark the accounts for technical compliance. The highest scoring accounts which comply with the Charities' SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) will go through to the second stage. The reports are then judged on the communications criteria stated.

CHURCHILL TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIPS
The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust supports British citizens from the UK wishing to gain experience and knowledge abroad. Grants cover return air fare, daily living, travel within countries being visited and, in exceptional circumstances, some assistance with home expenses. Grants usually cover a stay overseas of between 4-8 weeks. The Fellowship scheme does not cover attending courses, academic study, gap year projects or student grants.
2008 Categories:
· Science and Technology: applications are sought from a wide spectrum of interests in Science & Technology;
· Adventure, Exploration and Leaders of Expeditions (To avoid disappointment, team members of expeditions should not apply);
· Young People: if you are under 25 on 31 December 2008, the Trust will support projects, including sporting activities, that encourage personal development, as well as benefiting your community;
· Caring for the Elderly in Hospitals, Residential Homes and Rehabilitation Centres, including medical practitioners, social services, policy makers, owners, and other staff;
· Animal Welfare: proposals are invited from field workers, countryside rangers, veterinarians and others involved in the field of Animal Welfare;
· The Recruitment and Use of Volunteers in the Community;
· The Training and Retention of Teachers, including trainers, teachers and policy makers;
· Making a Living in the Countryside: the Trust is anxious to hear from a very broad spectrum of those involved in any form of business in our countryside;
· The Rehabilitation of Offenders, including, but not limited to: workers in the Probation, Prison, Charity and Mental Health Services, together with Educationalists, Employers and Criminologists;
· Craft Workers and Teachers involved in the Built Environment

FUTUREBUILDERS
Futurebuilders England is hoping to win the tender for the new phase of Futurebuilders fund (2008-11) and is seeking views from third sector organisations to support its bid preparations. They are keen to improve and develop their services by consulting with a wide range of third sector organisations by requesting their views on how Futurebuilders England can continue to improve our services to potential applicants and investees. GREGGS TRUST IN CUMBRIA
The Greggs Trust was established in 1987 by Ian Gregg, a member of the founding family of Greggs plc. The Trust is legally separate from the company, and makes grants to charities and community groups which improve the lives of disadvantaged people in our society, and improve the quality of life in local communities.
In Cumbria, the Trust distributes over £10,000 a year to good causes. Grants are decided by a committee of volunteers who work across the business. As resources are limited they look for projects that make a real difference and most closely match the criteria of alleviating poverty and disadvantage. The committee generally prefers to support projects, which are based near one of the 47 shops, or close to the bakery in Penrith.
o Divisional grants: these are made throughout the year and range from £250 up to a maximum of £1000. Grants can be made for general running costs, for the purchase of specialised equipment, which is essential for the organisation’s work, or towards the costs of outings or trips, but not for capital work. The committee meets every two to three months, and applicants are asked to send in a short letter, along with their latest set of accounts or bank statement for small groups. Groups will be notified of the outcome of their application after each meeting.
o Special Grant for 2007: In 2007 the Cumbria Charity Committee would like to make a one-off grant of £10,000 to a locally based project. The committee would like to support an organisation, which is making a real difference to the community, possibly in the areas of youth provision, support for the sick or disabled, or organisations supporting the elderly. These are however; only initial ideas and the committee would welcome applications from all groups working in the area of poverty and disadvantage. The grant will be made for the same purposes as divisional grants, and again capital work is excluded.
To apply, groups are asked to explain their project, their request for funding and who will benefit on no more than two sides of A4 paper. They are also requested to forward a detailed budget, and a copy of their annual report and accounts. Once received, applications will be short-listed, and may receive a visit from the committee before the decision is announced. It is hoped that the successful project could also be used for occasional staff visits, and perhaps to generate volunteering opportunities for a small number of Greggs plc staff.

Written applications must be received by Friday 16th November 2007, and the successful project will be notified before the end of the year. KELLOGGS ACTIVE LIVING FUND
The aim of this fund is to help remove the “barriers” which stop people being active and thus it is used to fund projects and activities that directly lead to people taking part in sustained physical activity. It is agreed that that children “learn” their physical activity habits mostly from their parents and therefore the Kellogg’s Active Living Fund is very keen to fund activities that enable adults and children to exercise together.
