PROGRAM AND JOB DESCRIPTION
D.E.E.P Impact is designed to influence meaningful change throughout the James Madison University campus community through the development of programs and services that heighten awareness, increase knowledge as well as celebrate the value of diversity in all forms. In addition, the program focuses on promoting inclusion, advocacy and respect in order to equip students with the cultural capacity to shape and change the world.
The successful candidate will possess a strong desire to create educational opportunities related to diversity and multiculturalism. In addition, all candidates are expected to have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, significant event planning experience as well as the ability to work and successfully navigate in an environment with diverse populations. In addition, candidates are required to have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average and agree to work the full duration of the program (August 2014-April 2015). Finally, all candidates will be required to attend a mandatory staff training scheduled on the campus of James Madison University from August 16-23, 2014.
POSITIONS
The following staff positions are available within D.E.E.P Impact. Candidates may only apply for ONE position. If you are not selected for the position applied for, an assessment of each candidate’s skills and experience will be taken inconsideration if other positions become available.
Administrative Specialist (one candidate will be selected for this position)
The Administrative Specialist is responsible for performing the daily operating duties of the program to include: (a) serving as the first point of contact for constituents (b) copying, filing and administering documents as needed (c) coordinating assessment efforts (d) attending staff meetings and team building activities as well as (e) all other duties assigned by the program director.
Event Coordinator (multiple candidates will be selected for this position)
Event Coordinators are responsible for creating, coordinating and facilitating programs for the JMU campus and greater community to include:
D.E.E.P Dialogues: Monthly discussions geared to engage students in meaningful dialogue about issues/ trends related to diversity and multiculturalism.
D.E.E.P Impact Cultural Series: Events held four times annually that feature prominent keynote speakers/performers that have made significant contributions to diversity awareness and education.
D.E.E.P Impact Action Conference: A one-day, interactive conference in which students will increase their ability to become effective change agents within their campus and greater communities.
Diversity Consultant (multiple candidates will be selected for this position)
Diversity Consultants are responsible providing outreach services requested by members of the JMU campus and greater community. Outreach services include workshops and activities that have a significant focus on the various facets of diversity and are geared to a smaller, targeted audience.
HOURS
The program is designed to fulfill approximately 10 hours per week. Some weeks will have more or less than 10 hours depending on program requirements.
COMPENSATION
Selected candidates will be paid a total stipend of $2,750 from late August 2014 through April 2015. This stipend will be administered twice every month of the contract year, in evenly divided dollar amounts.
MANDATORY PARTICIPATION
· D.E.E.P Impact Training (CMSS will assist with arranging early arrival and move-in for staff who reside on-campus OR provide supporting documentation for early move-in for staff who reside off-campus)
· Bi-weekly D.E.E.P Impact staff meetings
· Weekly office hours conducted in CMSS
· All programs and activities sponsored by D.E.E.P Impact
· Various programs and activities sponsored by CMSS
APPLICATION PROCESS
· Prepare responses to the application questions.
· Submit a current resume that specifically highlights the following areas: leadership skills, event planning experience and marketing skills (i.e.- graphic design, social media)

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Professionalism
· Maintain a professional attitude and persona at all times, both on and off-campus.
Event Planning
· Create, coordinate and facilitate programming in collaboration with colleagues and external constituents.
· Create and coordinate marketing efforts to publicize D.E.E.P Impact programs and services.
· Support CMSS-sponsored programming on an as-need basis
Community Development
· Develop a positive rapport with members of the JMU campus community.
· Develop a healthy working relationship with members of the D.E.E.P Impact and CMSS staff.
· Promote D.E.E.P Impact throughout the campus community in a positive light.
Administrative
· Attend mandatory training session.
· Conduct weekly office hours in CMSS (4 hours/week).
· Attend bi-weekly staff meetings.
· Attend professional development opportunities provided by the program supervisor.
· Assist with various administrative tasks and assignments as outlined by the program supervisor.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
· Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
· Significant event planning experience/skills.
· Graphic design skills/experience (preferred but not required).
· Very limited extracurricular activities that conflict with performing the duties and responsibilities of the program.
