CONVERSATIONS

Issue 1: Monday April 3, 2017

Coaching Director comments:
Welcome again to all our coaches. Thank you for signing up for the 2017 summer season and for attending the Coaching For Change (CFC) training on March 25th. Hopefully you benefited from the session and from the on-line training. If anyone has any questions, feedback or comments about CFC – let me know.
Why are you getting this newsletter?
I explained to you that my role as Coaching Director was to act as a resource to you. There is a lot of information available that will help you to be better coaches, and I wanted to find a way to communicate this to you. I am planning to send you this newsletter on a weekly basis. It is intended to be a ‘conversation’ - you may also have a lot of information that you can share with other coaches. Therefore, please send me anything that you would like to be included. Bryan Uffheil has already shared a lot of information with me – thanks!
Player Conditioning
Early in the season you may want to work on the conditioning of your players. According to ‘Sports Fitness Advisor’ at the senior level “players cover 3 to 7 miles during a match, consisting of 24% walking, 36% jogging, 20% coursing, 11% sprinting, 7% moving backwards and 2% moving whilst in possession of the ball.” Take account of these movement percentages when devising conditioning routines. Make sure that these are age and level appropriate. Check out the following sites for more on this subject:

Key Upcoming Dates:
March 31 to April 14: Team rescheduling process. Make sure that you get the game dates that are good for you and your team. Don’t forget to get approval for home game changes from our Field Coordinator, Andy Ferstl () and Referee Assigner, Helen Williams ().
Friday April 7 from 5:00 to 5:30 at the shed at Cotter Fields: Equipment distribution: Your equipment for the season is ready for you. If this day does not work we can arrange another time to meet.
Sunday April 30: Referee Certification Clinic. Encourage your players to do this. The Club desperately needs new referees.
Practices
Practices have generally started in the middle of April subject to the weather and field conditions. The U12 Boys have already started practices at La Canne. We will let you know when you are able to practice at Cotter Fields.
