EFFECTIVE – JULY 5, 2016
“SPEEDING CITATION INSTRUCTIONS ONLY”
If your speed was (15) miles per hour or less over the regular posted speed limit, or (10) miles per hour or less over a posted school zone, and you have not had two moving violations within the past (12) months, you may pay the citation in the manner set out below. Payment for such a citation is $48.00 plus $39.00 STATE COSTS, plus $13.00 COMPUTER FUND for a total of $100.00.
If your speed was greater than the above listed, refer to the below listed chart to determine the payout amount. These amounts include the $39.00 STATE COST plus the $13.00 COMPUTER FUND.

Consult the face of your citation copy in the area marked “SECTION AND TITLE OF OFFENSE: ______, for the specific violation section number. Review the above fine schedule to locate the proper fine amount that corresponds to the section number. Certain offenses require an appearance in court and are not considered payout citations.
Payment of Fines
By Mail: Forward a check or money order for the specific amount with your signed copy of the citation to: CITY OF READING MAYOR’S COURT, 1000 MARKET STREET, READING, OHIO45215. Make the check or money order payable to the “CITY OF READING”
In Person: Payments may be made at the City of Reading Municipal Building at 1000 Market St., Reading, Ohio45215. Enter through the 1st floor entrance from Market St. into the Police Department lobby. Payments may be made 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Exact Amount must be made. Payments will only be taken until 1:00 p.m. on court days to allow for court docket preparations.
After 1:00 p.m. on court days, you must appear in court to proceed with your case.
OHIO’S FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY LAW
If you are charged with a traffic offense that requires a mandatory appearance, you must bring to court with you, proof of financial responsibility (an insurance policy that was valid on the date and time of the citation) to show that you had liability insurance on the date and time of the offense.
Pay additional court costs not to exceed $30.00.
Among the offenses requiring a mandatory court appearance are:
1.Indictable offenses.
2.Operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or any other drug of abuse. (O.V.I.)
3.Leaving the scene of an accident.
4.Driving while under suspension or revocation of your driver’s license.
5. Driving without being licensed to drive.
6. If charged with a 3rd moving traffic offense within a twelve (12) month period.
7. Willfully fleeing or eluding a police officer.
8.Drag Racing.
9.26 MPH or more above the speed limit in a posted speed zone.
10.21 MPH or more above the speed limit in a posted school zone.
11.Failure to stop for a school bus.
If you do not bring proof of your financial responsibility as of the date of the offense, you will be required to:
A.Surrender the certificate of registration and your license plates if you are the owner of the car involved in the offense.
B.Surrender your driver’s license and have your license suspended for 90 days.
C.If you are not the owner of the motor vehicle involved, identify the name and address of the owner of the motor vehicle.
