Parish Council Annual Report 2013/2014

Welcome to this Annual Report. You will see that this is of a rather more concise nature than previous ones and demonstrates the lengths we have had to go to in looking at saving monies through the budget process.

In previous years we have “escaped” the cutbacks endured by our colleagues at County and District level but now it is our turn to face the same or similar reductions in funding.

However, we must see this as a challenge and perhaps an opportunity to reflect how we undertake our activities and provide services in the community. The choice is simple, we either complain bitterly but accept the consequences of the budget reductions and effectively “call it a day” or we look for new ways of engaging all sectors of our community to help to make Skellingthorpe an even better place to live. I am delighted that this Parish Council has chosen the latter and is committed to finding reasons for doing things rather than finding reasons for not doing them.

Admin & Finance Committee Report 2014

The Council has faced a very challenging time in managing its finances over recentmonths. We now know in advance, what the level of Government support for the next 3 years will be and the increasing rate of cutbacks. This has meant trying to keep our expenditure below our budget as far as possible this year, in a bid to keep next year’s precept requirement as low as we can manage. In an attempt to maintain and improve all the services provided by the Parish Council, this has unfortunately meant increasing the precept by a moderate amount. But, in real terms, this increase won’t make up for the reduced government grant support via NKDC. However, by careful management of our costs, and improving our income sources, we feel we now have a clearer and more balanced budget that we can work with.
