Goal:
Understand and appreciate different parenting styles. (Baumrinds 3 styles)
Appreciate how parenting styles can be translated into the school setting.
Teach parenting styles to all your classmates
General Objective:
Identify and apply authoritarian, authoritative, permissive parenting styles
Know the characteristics of children raised within the different parenting styles.
Discuss their parents or parental figures or teachers.
Reflect about ourselves as parents.
Reflect about ourselves as teachers or caretakers.
Know Gardner’s theory of explaining intelligence. (later in text)
Using the Multiple Intelligences (MI’s) by Gardner, the student will completethe following:
MI’S / A BRIEF DESCRIPTOR:BE ABLE TO TELL WHAT THE MI IS ABOUT. / MINI PROJECTS
Think specific behaviors and interactions of parent/caretaker and child.
1 / Verbal Linguistic / Write four stories about families that illustrate each of the 3 parenting styles.
2 / Spatial / Drawthree families. Each family should represent a parenting style used by the parents and how if affects children. Illustrate the environment and interactions to help you express the main aspects of each parenting style.
3 / Body-Kinesthetic / Role playdemonstration of each of the three parenting styles by writing out scripts.
4 / Logical Mathematical / Writethree problems or case studies that contain at least on problem that needs to be solved within the family involving the parenting styles used by parents or teacher or parental figures.
(Solve the case studies, that is, have answers)
5 / Musical / Create a poem or song or finger play or rap describing the three parenting styles.
6 / Interpersonal / Participate as a group member in a cooperative group projectto the best of your ability.
