Unit 1: Texas Geography

Texas Regions Foldable Project On-Level

Project Due Date: Monday, September 16

For this Unit 1 project, you will create a foldable chart containing categorized and descriptive information on each of the four regions in Texas. You will research and gather information for each region (and subregion) and use your information to create a foldable chart. Your finished chart will provide you with an excellent study tool for your Unit 1 TEST. Components of the project include:

A. The Foldable.

1. The foldable is made with a large sheet of manilla paper (provided) and

folded into thirds.

2. Cut and paste a Texas state map (provided) in the middle portion of the

foldable.

3. Cut the Texas map through the middle to open the foldable. Next cut each fold in half to create four outer flaps on the foldable.

4. Label the foldable “Four Regions of Texas” and decorate the outside cover and inside of the foldable – be creative here!

5. On the inside of each folded section, write your collected information about each Texas region. Make sure your writing, is neat, legible, clear, and factual.

B. Regions Fact Sheet.

1. Using your textbook, research and collect information to complete the Fact Sheet for each region.

2. Transfer your information in a neatly organized manner in pencil first, then finalize in ink.

C. Foldable Scrapbook Component.

1. From your Regions Fact Sheets, pick one mid-sized city or town in each of the four regions (you may NOT use a major city such as Dallas, Houston, Austin, El Paso, etc.).

You will design a 4-page scrapbook with a different city/town on each page. Each page must include: 1) title of the city/town and the region and subregion of its location 2) pictures and images associated with the city/town either drawn or printed in color (hint: use online sources), 3) short, 5-point bulleted list written or typed of places to visit in your city/town and/or any other interesting historical features about your town (hint: use your “Regions Fact Sheets” to include landmarks, physical/political/cultural characteristics, and fun facts).

2. Once completed, staple your four scrapbook sheets to the outside back of the foldable.

E. Grading.

1. This project will be worth a total of 80 points.

2. The project will count as a SUMMATIVE grade.

3. A rubric will be provided with grading categories and criteria.

4. ALL WORK NOT COMPLETED IN CLASS MUST BE COMPLETED AS
