Laudate 2017
The Education Secretariat and the Liturgy Office of the Archdiocese are launching a pilot choral project during Catholic Schools Week 2017. The project has been aptly named Laudate as it is a joyful celebration of faith expressed through song in both school and parish.
The Laudate project aims to build a common repertoire of hymns in both school and parish so that children along with the parish community may feel more connected at parish liturgical events and weekly celebrations. It is a means of giving lasting value to the celebration of Catholic Schools Week.
The highlight of Laudate will be the celebration of two festival evenings during Catholic Schools Week2017 at which a choir formed by ten/eleven participating schools, will sing the repertoire of hymns for and with a congregation consisting of parents and family, parishioners and representatives of choirs from the parishes in which the schools are located, along with any other interested parties.
All are welcome to attend Laudate: members of your parish community, parish choirs, parishioners along with all members of the school community to attend Laudateto gather together in song, celebration and reflection. Entry to the festival nights is free to all! All are welcome.
The festival celebrations will take place in:
- Our Lady of Victories Church in Ballymun on Tuesday 31 January at 7.00p.m.
- St Laurence’s Church, Kilmacud on Wednesday 1st February at 7.00p.m.
A list of the participating schools and a list of the hymns that are being sung during the festival celebrations are below. It is hoped that parish choirs and cantors will introduce some of the hymns into congregational and choral singing in parishes so that greatest benefit may be derived for all generations and parish community members, in all parishes in the archdiocese, from Laudate 2017.
Regarding parishes from which schools are participating in Laudate 2017 opportunities may be found to include the school Laudate choir, the parish choir and congregation in the singing of some of the repertoire together. It is important to extend the celebrationof Laudate as an acknowledgement of the importance of intergenerational celebration of faith.School communities that did not have the opportunity to participate this year may wish attend and consider seeking to participate in future years.
