  1. Strengthening Competitiveness and Capacities of the AF Sector

Two batches of Training on Organic Herbs and Spices Production and Utilization in support to GAD were conducted to farmers from Misamis Oriental last July 2-3 at De Luxe, Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City and Indigenous People (IPs) from Bacolod last July 7-9 at AGES Orchard, Purok 2, Poblacion, Bacolod, Lanao del Norte. The participants did actual propagation of herbs, herbal tea, and water infusion.

There were 26 participants who graduated in the Season-long Training of Trainers (TOT) on Vegetable Production cum Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) with NC II Certification. The training started last March 10 and the graduation was held last July 3 at Veranda, Casisang, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. The training enhanced the participants’ knowledge and skills on vegetable production through the integration of the principles of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and through discovery-based experiential learning and participatory approaches of the training. All the participants including 2 ATI Trainers passed the NC II Certification held at Kinoguitan National Agricultural School (KNAS) last July 9.

Disaster Preparedness Training for Senior Citizen of Cagayan de Oro City (GAD) was conducted to 26 senior citizens last July 14-16 at Harbor Lights Hotel and Restaurant, Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City. The training helped the participants learn about the hazards and disasters we are having and how to mitigate and respond to them.

Training on Rubber-based Farming System was conducted to farmers from the municipality of Baungon last July 14-17 at Farmers Training Center-Central Mindanao University, Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon. The participants were able to perform hands-on activity on Rubber-Tapping at a Rubber plantation.

Training on Dairy Herd Management was participated by Indigenous People last July 21-23 at Mindanao Cooperative Hostel Services, Cagayan de Oro City. The participants were able to perform hands-on activities ondairy herd management.

The students and teachers of the Misamis Occidental National High School, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental participated in the AgriFair 2015conducted by Oroquieta FITS Center in coordination with ATI-RTC 10 and the MONHS. The Agri Fair also served as the culmination of the month-long Nutrition Month Celeration. ATI sponsored a symposium onedible landscaping and organic agriculture while other activities incorporated were traditional but innovative games like Mario Went to Farm, nutri jingle contests, poster making and best in booth contest. The awarding of prizes were also held.

Extension workers, farmers and LGU representatives participated in the Training on Organic Herbs & Spices Production and Utilization last July 21-23 held at Veranda, Casisang, Malaybalay City. They also didFish Pond Preparation.

Training on Organic Herbs and Spices Production and Utilization was participated by PWDs last July 23-25 at De Luxe Hotel, Cogon, Cagayan de Oro City. The participants underwent exams on Identification of various herbs, plant cuttings of Herbs and process herb tea and juice.

Training of Trainers (TOT) on Post-harvest Handling, Storage and Marketing of Vegetables was conducted to extension workers and farmers last July 28-30 at Season-long Training of Trainers (TOT) on Vegetable Production cum Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) with NC II Certification. The participants learned how to treat farming as a business and provide good income and understanding on marketing and markets. They came up with an Action Plan and Market Survey Data.

Training on High Value Vegetable Production was held at DLRPSA, Bagumbayan, Kauswagan, LanaodelNorte last July 29-31 and was participated by farmers from Barangay Cayontor. The participants were equipped with knowledge and skills in the Natural Farming Technology System (NFTS) by making concoctions like Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN), Indigenous Microorganisms (IMO), Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ) and others. They were able to experience and discover more of the technologies of organic farming. The learning they gained paved way for them to discover applicable practices to enhance their existing farming activities.

The fifth batch of Adopt a 4-H Program which started on June 30-July 31 had aready graduated. The host farms are E & N Farm inLalawan and Veranda, in Casisang, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. The participants were trained on how to become successful agripreneurs.

Training Course on Capacitating Agricultural Extension Workers in Support to Rice Program was conducted to Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) last July 27-31 at Hotel Conchita, Cogon, Cagayan de Oro City.

Training Course on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) on Corn and Cassava was conducted to AEWs from the different municipalities of Bukidnon last July 27-31 at Veranda Casisang, Malaybalay City. The training enhanced the knowledge of the participants on the good practices of Corn and Cassava.

  1. Expanding Partnerships in Advancing Excellence in AFE Delivery.

A total of P 658,000 was released to 5 Learning Site partners in Region 10. The 5 recipients and the assistance released are:(1)Ernesto Leonar of E & N Farm in Lalawan, Linabo, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon – P 150,000 (2)BenjohnMahistrado of Alomah’s Place in Dahilayan, ManoloFortich, Bukidnon – P 150,000 (3)Irene Lacanaria of Bangcud, Malaybalay City - P 150,000 (4) Bernardino Cagampang Jr. of JunLyn Integrated and Diversified Farm in Kalilangan, Bukidnon- P 108,000 (4) JunahBayag of Jaya’s Secret Garden – P 100,000. The funds will be usedto improve their farms and its facilities so that visitors can learn more about the various operations and technologies used in the farm and to encourage them to go into farming.

  1. Scaling-Up AFE innovations

The e-Trading site called FilFarm was formally presented to ATI-RTC 10 Management, ISD group at ATI C.O. and all KM coordinators of the network for critiquing and finalization. This innovation will help Sellers who are mostly ATI’s Learning Sites and MS Farms and partners and Buyers to meet and transact business on line.

  1. Strengthening AFE Stakeholders’ Capacity in Climate Change Adaptation & Readiness

The ATI-RTC X clients and partners in region X participated in the Mindanao Climate Change Summit last July 14-16 held at Veranda Casisang, Malaybalay City. The participantsplanted 200 Banyan Trees at the Malaybalay Tree Park in Malaybalay City and they assisted the staff of the Center for Ecology and Organic Farming, Inc. (CEOF) and staff from the BukidnonEnvironment and Natural Resources office (BENRO).

  1. Improving Enabling Environment and Quality of Governance

Dr. Angelito Y. Quirog, Center Director together with Mr. Efren C. Macario, Administrative Officer IV, Moisa Niña D. Catiil, technical support staff and Mr. MaelJapeth Alvarez, administrative assistant attended the Mid-Year Performance Review & Planning Workshop last July 20-24 at Hotel Essencia, Dumaguete City. The center ranked as Top 2 Performer in submitting Physical Reports.

Ms. Noemi Beth Macario, Media Specialist III and Ms. Honeylou G. Cababaros, technical support staff attended the KM Updates last July 27-31 at Park Inn Hotel, Lanang, Davao City.

Macario, Administrative Officer IV, Javier Andalan, Agriculturist II and Jhoylie Mae C. Rosales, technical support staff and MaelJapeth Alvarez, administrative assistant attended the Mindanao Climate Change Summit last July 14-16 held at Veranda Casisang, Malaybalay City. Significant learnings were gained by the participants and new partnerships were established by ATI to mitigate and address Climate Change. Participants were able to plant Banyan tree or also known as “Balite tree”.

Scholarship Program Assessment was attended by Ms. Maria Lydia A. Echavez, coordinator of EHRDP last July 23-26 held at Dumaguete City.

Mr. Philip D. Villegas, Corn Focal Person and Ms. Teodosia D. Jaraba attended the Strategic Planning for Corn & HVCDP last July 27-31 held at Iloilo City. The activity helped the staff to assess the performance of the center in the said commodities for the first semester and make plans for next year.

ATI-RTC 10 Releases 658,00o to 5 Learning Sites

A total of P 658,000 was released to 5 Learning Site partners in Region 10. The funds will be used to improve their farms and its facilities so that visitors can learn more about the various operations and technologies used in the farm. This is in line with the advocacy of the Regional Training Center of the Agricultural Training Institute in Northern Mindanao through the leadership of Dr. AngelitoQuirogto establish more learning sites in order to reach as many farmers and students and encourage them to love agriculture.

The 5 recipients and the assistance released are:

The amount released to E&N Farm will be used towards the enhancement of the Learning Site particularly the improvement of Training facilities, improvement of vermibeds, and purchase of additional rubber seedlings, among others. For Alomah’s Place, the amount releasedwill also be used to enhance its facilities particularly its Training hall and dormitory. Lacanaria’s Farm proposed for the procurement of additionalvegetable seeds, fruit tree seedlings, farm tools and implements, draft animal, brreding stocks for swine and goat, native chicken, livestock shed houses, among others. JunLyn Farm will use the fund released to them to improve its nursery, vermibeds, training hall and the procurement of farm tools. Jaya Secret Garden will use the funds for the enhancement of the garden and nursery, development of fishponds, improvement of rabbit and hog structures, vermicompostingfacility and the improvement of lecture hall and reception area.
