SOME KEY EVENTS DURING 2012 – OUR YEAR OF CELEBRATION

Late March Local Launch of new Inaugural launch by local Club Captains, MGLL Chairman

450 yard hole and Golf Professional.

Late April / June 450 Exhibition An exhibition in Montrose Museum on the history of our

Course and the three clubs. Included in this will be 6 panels

and each of the clubs will get 2 panels at the end of the

exhibition. Cost will include production etc. of the panels

April / September Magic 3’s Competition All entrants to summer medals who obtain a 3 or net 3 can

enter into a competition on the last Sunday of September.

Information will be collated by pro shop and

entrants when they come off the course inform the pro.

Final takes place on 30 Sep and prizes for individual

winners of each category.

02nd April Year of Celebration/ A lone piper in traditional Scottish attire welcomes all

Tartan Day visitors to Launch Day and the opening ceremony and also

the Tartan Day competitors. Alan Crow (Chairman of Montrose Golf Links Limited) gives a formal welcome to all present and an introduction regarding the launch of the Year of Celebration. Jason Boyd (PGA Professional attached to Montrose Golf Links Limited) arrives on the Medal Course 1st tee together with a Junior golfer, both dressed in period costume from 1562. After initial coaching by Jason, they then play the 1st hole together. After this, the Tartan Day competitors begin their round of golf and receive commemorative gifts.

13th April Visit by Catriona Matthews Catriona Matthews will conduct the press launch of the

new 450 yard hole and conduct a golf clinic. (detailed arrangements still to be finalised)

07-10th May Carnoustie Country Classic Golfers from all corners of the globe descend on

Tournament Carnoustie Country for this annual golfing extravaganza,

this including a round of golf for all competitors (spread

over the 4 days of the Tournament) on the historic Montrose Links, along with rounds at Carnoustie, Monifieth and Panmure. Competitors receive commemorative gifts.

29th June Weekend of Celebration. Civic Reception in Montrose Park Hotel hosted by the

provost and invitations to Office bearers of golf clubs

30th June Day 1 – Golfers will arrive at Montrose for a weekend of golfing competitions (prizes in all categories – Gents,

Ladies, Seniors and Juniors). A formal dinner will also take place on this evening, with entertainment, celebrity guest speaker and a charity auction taking place.

01stJuly Day 2 – Weekend of Celebration golfing event continues, with golfers taking to the Course again, and a final presentation of prizes taking place on completion of play.

All competitors receive commemorative gifts.

17th July Junior Open Day. 8 Competitions in varying categories, catering for all ages

and abilities of Junior golfers taking part on the day,

utilising our Medal and Broomfield Courses, together with the Pitch & Putt Course and the Putting Green. It is planned to attract many Junior golfers from all over Angus as well as other areas in Scotland and that this will become an annual event as a true legacy of the 2012 Year of Celebration. Competitors receive commemorative gifts.

18th July 45 Commando 45 Commando is back after another tour of duty in

Afghanistan and 45 of them have been invited to come to

play the course as our way of thanking them for their

service. Costs are for food and gifts.

21st July Pro-Am Tournament. An opportunity for golfers to experience playing in the

company of a Tartan Tour PGA Professional and for

spectators to watch these talented professional sportsmen

in action.

23-27th July Open Week. Around 300 golfers – Gents, Ladies and Juniors, compete

over 5 days aiming to be the champion golfer in their own

respective competitions.

06th October Open Tri-Am Tournament The normal end of season event for our Medal Course, and,

for 2012, combined with the closing ceremony for the Year

of Celebration. It is hoped to have a famous golfer or celebrity from the world of entertainment as our guest of honour at the closing ceremony where prizes are awarded.

Date Aug/ Sep Queens Archers The course was used as training in archery and every 7

years the Queens Archers do a demonstration. They have

agreed to come in 2012 to perform and costs are hospitality.
