Assessment

Your child will be assessed in a variety of ways this year. These could be in the form of teacher-created tests, teacher observation, class participation, projects, presentations, etc. Your child will also take the IOWA Test of Basic Skills, COGAT, state-mandated tests and Sixth Grade Readiness tests.

Grading

Certain in-class work, homework, projects, presentations, quizzes, and tests will be given points or a percentage out of 100. These assignments will be recorded in the grade book and averaged at the end of each grading period. Other assignments may be checked for completion, neatness and accuracy, but not necessarily recorded for a grade.

Homework

Homework assignments from various subjects are sent home on a daily basis. It is expected that they be returned the following day. Questions or concerns regarding homework or other issues can be communicated via the student planner or email.

Consequences

  • A student will receive a discipline slip for behavior problems, missing assignments, or missing materials.
  • The discipline slip will be stapled in the planbook.
  • Any missing assignments must be completed the next day. The student will lose a percentage on the value of the assignment for each day that it is late.
  • Students will receive a discipline slip for each day an assignment is missing.
  • If a student receives two or more slips by Friday, that student will miss Fun Friday.
  • A letter is sent home at the end of each month informing the parent of the number of slips their child received that month.
  • Bully Slips will be sent home if bullying behaviors are occurring. We follow the Two Tier Bully System established at Johnson School.
