Mrs. Mayor,
This letter is just a follow up on the conversation that you and I had at Krogers regarding what would be told to people who inquired regarding Christy’s termination. If you recall, you mentioned that the only information that could be given is her start date and termination date.
Christy applied to the Brownsburg Waste Water Treatment Plant. She was interviewed twice and had several promising telephone conversations with Kathy Dillon. She called Kathy and informed her that she was applying for a CDL Learners Permit. Theyhad a positive conversation. Brownsburg also called and talked to all the references that Christy had listed. Things were looking pretty good.
On January 31st, Christy called Kathy to let her know about the CDL Permit. That conversation didn’t go as well. Kathy Dillon was short and didn’t want to talk to Christy.
It seems that in between these two phone conversations, Kathy Dillon spoken to Utilities Superintendant Richard Hedge on the phone. Richard informed her that IDEM was going to revoke Christy’s IDEM Licenses and that was why she was terminated. “But Christy is a smart girl”, Richard told her, “If they do, she will be able to retake the tests and get her licenses back”. Oscar King was present during this entire conversation. He has repeated it to several people.
I hope this doesn’t seem to you to be a trivial matter. Since Christy was terminated, she has successfully obtained her GED and IDEM has not revoked any of her licenses. Christy is very interested in pursuing her career in the Water and Waste Water Industry.
If the City’s policy is in fact that the only information that is allowed to be discussed regarding an employee’s termination is start and end dates, then Richard Hedge has obviously violated that policy, possibly undermining Christy’s attempt at obtaining a career enhancing job in the process.
Mrs. Mayor, Christy has attempted to try to talk to you regarding this. Frankly, she is scared. She knows that she let you down. She is very ashamed at herself for lying on her application in 2000 and for her career with the city ending the way it did in December 2011.
On a personal note, I am not sure why I feel like I should be the one to step in and bring this to your attention, especially in the light of our recent divorce. I suppose part of it is my understanding of how regretful she is, along with my thought that she faces an uphill battle, and doesn’t need any help in the “here’s a reason not to hire me” category.
Just thought you might appreciate this information.
Thank you,
Steve Reutemann
