Dr. Peter G. Kreysa is an Associate Professor in the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). He is the Graduate Advisor for the Master of Science Degree in Emergency Services Administration and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. He is the Director of the campus Emergency Medical Technician Program, and Director and Undergraduate Advisor of the Consumer Affairs Program.
Dr. Kreysa is chair of the University’s General Education Governing Committee and a member of the Graduate Advisors Council for the College of Health and Human Services. He has chaired and served on the university’s Academic Appeals Committee and served on the college’s Education Policies Committee. At CSULB, he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in consumer affairs, advanced program development and instruction, management competencies, instruction and evaluation for designated subjects, and research design. Dr. Kreysa is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Education Research Association, the American Association for University Professors, and the Association for Family and Consumers Sciences. He also served as the Academic Advisor to the Omicron Tau Theta Graduate Student Honor Society.
Dr. Kreysa received his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, and his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Maryland.
Dr. Kreysa is a member of the Graduate Advisors Council for the College of Health and Human Services. He has chaired the University’s General Education Governing Committee and the University’s Academic Appeals Committee. He served as Interim Department Chair for Family and Consumer Sciences for two terms (approx. 2,000 students and 75 faculty). He has also served on the College’s Education Policies Committee. At CSULB he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in emergency management, consumer affairs, advanced program development and instruction, management, instruction and evaluation, and research design. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Education Research Association, the American Association for University Professors, and the Association for Family and Consumers Sciences.
The Master of Science Degree in Emergency Services Administration at CSULB is designed to provide students with the conceptual foundation and managerial communication and analytical skills required for designing, testing, and implementing an effective response to workplace and community emergencies. Such emergencies may involve the potential loss of human life and property due to fire, explosion, release of hazardous chemicals, structural failures, natural calamities, and terrorist acts. The program has two major purposes: 1) To provide an understanding of the administration and management of emergency managers, and 2) To prepare students for leadership roles in emergency disaster administration by stressing independent research, communication and writing skills, exposure to experts, and practical experiences of respected emergency services and disaster organizations, both nationally and internationally. The intended audiences are practitioners from the public and private sectors who are engaged in the delivery or coordination of emergency services.
Dr. Kreysa is attending the EMI Higher Education Conference to network with other faculty and professionals in the field and to keep up to date with regard to effective teaching methodologies, curricula, technology, and the developing needs of professionals in the discipline.
