*Monday A (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL. 11-12.4, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL. 11-12.1)
Bellringer: Connotative/Denotative Day 4 exercise
Activity: Small group discussion activity
Objective: Discuss and respond to prompts that reflect your thoughts while reading the novel, A Long Way Gone
Activity:
- Read Chapter 4 of A Long Way Gone as a class
- Model literature circles for students
- Assign roles and groups randomly for each student to take in literature circles
Objective: Students will gain an understanding of literature circles and the different roles involved
*Tuesday B (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL. 11-12.4, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL. 11-12.1A)

Objective: Students will demonstrate the knowledge they have obtained by reading and studying the novel, A Long Way Gone
Activity: Mandala project
Object: Students will use evidence from the novel to describe Ishmael Beah’s character
