License Plate

Name: ______Date: ______

Purpose: To learn and use basic layers in Photoshop to create a car tag.

Instructions: Create a 12x6 license plate that has the words SENIOR (or other year) as the wording on the tag. All content on the tag should be that related to your school. At the bottom of this page is a picture that represents a basic tag. The purpose of the picture is to provide clarity for the parts of the tag. Do not feel you must position your parts in the exact same location. Be creative in your layout!

  1. The background layer should contain an image or gradient effect. No solid colors. Stay away from a black-based background.
  2. To create a new layer in your image, select Layer, New, Layer. Layer Two should contain the County section of the tag. The wording on this section is your choice—as it related to your school.
  3. Layer Three should contain the decal box –the wording on this section is your choice—as it relates to your school.
  4. Layer Four should contain the Second decal box—the wording on this section is your choice—as it relates to your school.
  5. Layer Five should contain the State name section on the tag –the wording on this section should have the school name.
  6. Layer six should contain the text SENIOR as it represents the main lettering of the tag. These letters should be BLACK and should appear three dimensional. Use the Blending Options to change the look of the letters.
  7. Save as license plate as a .psd in your folder.
  8. When you are ready to print you will have to rotate your image. To do this click Image, Rotate Canvas, 90° CW. You tag will turn sideways.
  9. You need to print this in color. Change the paper size before you print. To do this, click File, Page Setup, Select the Size of the paper to be Legal size (8 ½ x 14).
  10. You are ready to print. Make sure you have placed legal sized paper in the printer.
  11. Get your paper from the printer and write your name on the back of your paper. Each tag should be unique, therefore it will be easy to identify your tag.

Points to remember….

  1. Use the opacity feature of a layer for a nice blending effect.
  2. Don’t forget the option to feather your copied items.
  3. Use the blending options for your text (Layer, Layer Style, Blending Options).
  4. Use school colors.
  5. Be original and creative with your license plate.
  6. Appearance is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for this assignment.
