Qualifications
An applicant must:
- Be a current student at James Madison University
- Have participated in a study abroad program (JMU, Exchange, or External)
- Have a strong passion for Study Abroad and International Education
- Have leadership experience and/or a sincere interest in developing these skills
- Be reliable, responsible, and able to devote the necessary time to the position
- Be able to represent the office in a professional manner at all times
* Note: As part of this position, you will be required to:
- Attend an oIP Study Abroad Global Duke Training Session on August 21 and 22, 2014.
Responsibilities
All Study Abroad Global Dukes (GDs) will have the opportunity to represent and promote study abroad at JMU. In addition to this responsibility, Global Dukes will be selected to fill one of the following positions.
- Marketing and MediaCoordinator – 2 Positions Available
This position will call upon the Global Duke to manage social media efforts (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogs, etc.) to highlight our programs. Responsibilities include: contacting current and past participants for pictures, videos, and links to creative media that emphasizes the beauty and benefits of studying abroad. This Global Duke will be required to monitor and frequently update web applications and keep the face of these pages current. Duties will also include reaching potential participants with these pages and communicating the academic and social culture as a part of studying abroad.
In addition to managing media, this position also calls for the Global Duke to be in charge of marketing efforts on campus. ThisGD creates marketing campaigns to promote study abroad throughout the academic year. This may include developing strategic marketing plans, identifying new mediums for exposure, designing promotional material (fliers, posters, Breeze ads, t-shirts), and assistance with event coordination.
- Events Specialist– 2 Positions Available
The study abroad program continues to grow at JMU as a direct result of OIP’s efforts to promote the benefits of the SA experience through events on campus. This position calls for a Global Duke to help coordinate, prepare for, and staff many of our Study Abroad events, both large and small. These events include, but are not limited to, International Week, The Study Abroad Fair, Taste of Study Abroad, Choices, Open Houses, Pre-Departure Orientations, Info Sessions, and the Life-After-Study Abroad Conference. Duties include advertising and promoting events, reserving facilities, creating banners, classroom presentations, outreach to other offices on campus, and creating partnerships throughout the JMU community.
