THE INNAUGURATION OF THE SCHOOL YEAR 2010/2011

A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2009/2010/ Reminders:

The school year started and ended up successfully by the grace of God. No death of either a staff or student/pupil was registered, except for a few members of the P.T.A of some of our schools. May their souls rest in perfect peace as they are rewarded for the good work they did while here on earth.

Participation of the schools in Educational activities. It was observed to be generally improved as compared to the previous years. We thank each school and hope that they will continue in that good spirit.

Cooperation with the Education Office It could be said to be a encouraging and this went a great deal to enhance the work of the office. But still there are a few who up till now have neither understood nor realized why they need to keep in constant touch with the Education Office for approval and guidance n all they do.

Prompt Payment of Education Levies. We congratulates St. John Bosco Doma in particular who has maintained strict promptness in the payment of Education levies each term. We thank those who try to pay their levies termly and on time, and we continue to plead with those who don not pay these levies at all for what ever reasons. Some notorious schools noted for incomplete payment of levies for some years now include Fr Fenessy Nur/Pri School Kadarku and St Francis Nur/Pri School Assakio. The school noted for not even attempting to pay a kobo for the past years is DMMM Nur/Pri School Lafia. It is our ardent prayers that each school is conscious of their responsibilities to the Education Office just as the office strives to play her part.

-  20/40% Payment by the Cath. Institutions in Lafia diocese of the school year`s benefits to the Diocese. Out of A total of 25 Catholic Institution in the Diocese of Lafia, only 10 have so far paid.

-  Th Cath. Common Entrance Examination. Last year a total number of 690 pupils went in for the exams 459 succeeded and 231 failed.

No registered 690

No passed 459 66.5%

No failed 231 33.4%

-  Public Exams such as NECO, and WAEC, are still awaiting detailed results. In the main time we congratulate Schools that will perform well and encourage those that will not to keep working hard to maintain the Catholic Standard of education in this Diocese.

-  Total Enrollment of the school year.

Our Nur/Primary Schools Boys 3,090

Girls 2,621

Secondary schools Boys 1,393

Girls 1,686

Giving a total number of Boys 4,484

Girls 4,307

-  Pastoral life of the schools. We thank the schools that have been taking this most important aspect of our education seriously both in the lives of the pupils/student and teachers. We continue to encourage all schools to organize retreats, recollection, masses, preparation and reception of Initial Sacraments by both pupils/students and teacher, both teaching and non-teaching staff.

-  Compulsory Savings for teachers 15%. Our schools are all encouraged to continue calculating the Pensions of the teachers and keep till we open a special account for the money. This is because the Companies we chose have not been serious.

-  Education Commission. It is rather unfortunate that this commission has not been as functional as it is expected to be. What ever the reasons may be, we hope that this year their presence and help will be seriously felt. We thank the few members who have been active and truly helpful to us in the course of the year. We plead and call on each one especially those working with the Government to appeal to the government on our behalf for the return of our School, the Grant- in- aids that we deserve, and especially to plead for the minimization of the so many unexplained and increasing levies they keep demanding from our schools under traits of closing down the schools or not attending to them as far as public exams are concerned if they schools do not comply.

-  Challenges/Difficulties.

-Late or no Payment of education Levies which makes it practically difficult for the office to plan and execute any projects or even to run the office.

-Non Submission of necessary document to the education Office making work very difficult for those in the office.

-Poor attendance of meetings and unnecessary sending of representatives for important meeting. This makes the making and implementations of some decisions very difficult.

-Poor cooperation or cordial relationships between some School Managers and the Head Teachers/Principals, which makes the smooth running of the school difficult.

-Continues escape of teachers without any notification in search for greener pastures abandoning the pupils/students to suffer the bitter consequences

-Examination mal practice. Some of the teachers in some of our schools under the influence of either parents or the students go as far as writing public exams for pupils/student. This is seriously condemned and any victim risks prompt dismissal be it the teacher or the student. So be warned all pruned to that bad habit. Remember we are Catholic Schools that advocate for success gained through hard work and merit, and not through any form of cheating. We shall explore every means available to check and demolish that from all our schools. Don`t be a victim.

-Poor or no payment of school fees in our schools. Please try to encourage the parents to pay fees and on time to enable the school to pay teachers to take good care of the pupils/students. Teachers should not lay hands on any money school fees from the parents but should direct them to the school bursars for receipts to be issued.

-Most of our school do not have the land Marks of the schools. It is very crucial to know the boundary of the school. So those who do not yet know are encouraged to do well to measure the school boundaries thru the help of the School Managers and let us know.
