Homework Assignments - Week 7
10/9 – 10/13 ( Individual Conferences )
Tues. and Thurs. 10/9 – 10/13:
Journal Topic # 4: Write 2 well developed paragraphs which describe an experience that you would like to relive. Be sure to adequately describe the event and then go on to explain why you would like to relive this experience. (Due Mon. Oct. 9)
- We will not meet as a class. Each of you will have an individual conference with me. Our next class meeting will be Mon. Oct. 16.
- Unless I tell you otherwise, all conferences will be in the English Dept. – 2nd floor DeBartolo Hall, office 214.
Ask the student assistant at the front desk for directions.
- I trust you will use our normal class time productively.
- Our conference will focus on Essay # 1 and Essay # 2.
- IN ORDER TO RECEIVE FULL CREDIT ( 50 quiz pts.) FOR YOUR CONFERENCE, YOU MUST COMPLETE AND BE PREPARED TO DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING MATERIAL:
a. Essay # 1: Bringthe gradedessay # 1 and my evaluation sheet to the
conference.
- Use the extensive comments regarding content, organization, essay format, and sentence level errors on the Writing Evaluation Form to complete this conference work. In other words, if I suggested content or organizationalREVISIONS on the Writing Evaluation Form, you should bring those revisions to the conference.
YOU WILL NEED:
- a written thesis (revised if suggested)
- topicsentences for EACH body paragraph (revised if suggested)
- a list of support examples/details for EACH body paragraph (revised if suggested)
- all of this may be in outline form if you wish
- If this material is not in outline form, please highlight the thesis and topic sentences in the text of your revised essay.
- KEEP THIS INFORMATION AND INCLUDE IT AND MY NOTES IN THE PORTFOLIO.
- As noted in class, the grade which appears on Essay # 1 is a “temporary grade.” It is NOT your final grade for this paper. You will have an opportunity to revise.
b. Essay # 2: Bring the following:
- A detailed outline showing how you plan to develop this essay.
- Include ,in SENTENCE form, a thesis and topics sentences for each body paragraph.
- Give a list of examples/details for EACH body paragraph.
- Be able to explain the logic behind your body paragraph organization. Did you use chronological order, climatic, problem solving, etc. Refer to the Handbk. p. 21-23.
- KEEP THIS OUTLINE AND INCLUDE IT AND MY NOTES IN THE PORTFOLIO.
