NAME______
PRACTICE PRACTICE GRAPHING PROBLEM
(1) PROBLEM -
HOW MANY DOTS CAN YOU MAKE ON PAPER IN PRE DETERMINED PERIODS OF TIME?
(2) WHICH TWO ITEMS MAKE UP THE SET OF DATA FOR THIS GRAPH?
(3) WHAT IS THE DEPENDENT INFORMATION?
(4) WHAT IS THE INDEPENDENT INFORMATION ?
PRACTICE GRAPHING PROBLEM (CONT.)
Making Graphs
(Also called: "Histograms")
(1)USED TO SHOW A PICTURE OF CLASS DATA.
(2)NO SPECIAL WAY TO CONSTRUCT EXCEPT FOR TITLING THE
VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL AXIS.
(A)VERTICAL AXIS IS ALWAYS TITLED "TIMES OCCURRING.
(B)HORIZONTAL AXIS TITLE WILL CHANGE ACCORDING
TO THE INFORMATION BEING GRAPHED.
(3) IN SOME CASES, NUMBERS WILL BE ROUNDED TO MAKE BETTER GROUPING BEFORE MAKING YOUR HISTOGRAM.
(4)DETERMINE MOST TIMES OCCURRING INFORMATION. THIS
TELLS YOU HOW MANY SPACES YOU NEED ON THE VERTICAL AXIS.
(5)DETERMINE THE LOWEST AND THE HIGHEST PIECES OF
DATA. BY SUBTRACTING THESE TWO YOU NOW KNOW THE RANGE OF ANSWERS TO BE GRAPHED. YOU NOW US THIS INFORMATION TO SET UP YOUR HORIZONTAL AXIS SCALE.
Graphing Tips
(1) USE PENCIL ONLY
(2) COLORED PENCILS MAY BE USED; AND WILL BE A BIG
HELP IN SOME GRAPHING.
(3) YOU MUST SHOW ALL MATH CALCULATIONS !
(4) ALL ANSWERS MUST BE LABELED !
(1) WILL ALWAYS BE ONE FULL PAGE IN SIZE,
(2) LEAVE A FOUR SPACE MARGIN ON THE BOTTOM AND
THE LEFT HAND SIDE.
(3)SCALING YOUR GRAPH
(A)MAKE NO BREAKS IN THE SCALE.
(B)HORIZONTAL AXIS IS THE INDEPENDENT
INFORMATION. (TELLS US TO GO OVER)
(C)VERTICAL AXIS IS THE DEPENDENT
INFORMATION. (TELLS US TO GO UP)
(D)EACH SPACE ON THE SAME AXIS MUST HAVE THE
SAME VALUE.
(E)USE YOUR LARGEST SET OF DATA TO DETERMINE
THE SCALES FOR THE HORIZONTAL AND
VERTICAL AXIS.
(F)TITLE EACH AXIS.
(G)TITLE THE GRAPH.
1) RATIO - A COMPARISON OF TWO SETS OF DATA BY DIVISION.
RATIO = DEPENDENT (Side) INDEPENDENT (Bottom)
(2)IN READING PROBLEMS, THE FIRST PIECE OF DATA USUALLY GOES
ON TOP AND THE SECOND PIECE OF DATA GOES UNDERNEATH.

Safety First:
Circle any drawing that shows an unsafe laboratory activity and explain why it is unsafe.
MEASURING LENGTH
What lengths are marked on the following centimeter ruler?
A.____ B.____ C.____ D.____ E.____ F.____ G.____ H.____ I.____
Measure the following line with a centimeter ruler.
