The Artsy Traveler
Plescia
Good news artsy people…Plescia Travel Series The Artsy Traveler needs you to create a presentation on Art and Latin America. Your assignment is as follows:
Focusing on a region in Latin America (to be approved and or assigned by me, of course) you will research the Arts and Literature specific to that region and present that information to the class. As you may recall, the Arts and Literature element of culture basically include any product of the human imagination, such as art, music, and literature. These things that please and entertain a culture can teach us about that culture's values. You will work with two or three other people (no partners and no groups of 5). You will not have a lot of time to work on this, so you should get started immediately. Your assignment is as follows:
Part One: One typed page history of the art you chose. Why was it created? How was it created? What was (if any) the political, economic and social climate of the time it was created What does it signify? Is it in response to something? In what region did this artist or art form originate? You will include a bibliography. Absolutely NO cutting and pasting.
You will submit this the day you present.
Part Two: The presentation-You and your group members will present a lesson in which the history as well as the art itself is explained. For example, if you study a form of dance, you will need to in some way demonstrate that dance to the class. If you choose to study music, you will need to provide a sample of that music for the class-if there are lyrics-teach us the meaning behind the lyrics…If you choose to research an artist, you will need to bring in a sample of the artist's work.-same goes if you research a writer.
Each presentation must be between 3-5 minutes. Each group member will receive the same grade, so please be sure that work is appropriately allocated. You will be given research time in the library, but I expect you to complete most of this assignment on your own. This week I will give you a rubric and I will explain in further detail my expectations. By the end of class on Tuesday you should know who you are working with and begin research over the weekend.
This is due Wednesday, October 19th.
Below you will find a list of potential artists-you are not limited to this list, however. It is meant to be a starting point and give you some ideas.
