LIBRARY CATALOGS

The Library’s collections are searchable via CRUZCAT (http://cruzcat.ucsc.edu)—UCSC’s library catalog.

For materials available at other University of California libraries, search Melyvl (http://melvyl.cdlib.org)—UC’s system-wide catalog.

RESEARCH DATABASES

The Library’s subscription-based databases allow users to search for research materials by topic and, in many cases, retrieve the full text online.

For a complete list of databases visit the Online Resources page (http://library.ucsc.edu/Zope/eresources).

RESEARCH FROM OFF-CAMPUS

UCSC students, faculty and staff who live off-campus may login to the Library’s databases through the Off-Campus Access service. The service allows users to access the Library’s databases with their library barcode.

For information visit the Off-Campus Access page (http://oca.ucsc.edu/).

RESEARCH HELP

The Library welcomes questions from all disciplines and interests. Librarians offer advice and instruction on research strategies, recommend print and electronic resources, and more. Visit a Reference Desk at McHenry or S&E Library for assistance.

For information, or to submit a question online visit: http://library.ucsc.edu/askalibrarian.html.

INSTRUCTIONAL & OUTREACH SERVICES

The University Library provides a variety of instructional services, including library classes for UCSC courses, research skills workshops each quarter, and an online research tutorial. In addition, the Library extends these services to UCSC programs aimed at the recruitment and retention of under-represented students.

For information visit the Library Instruction & Outreach page (http://library.ucsc.edu/instruction).

LIBRARY CARDS

Bring your UCSC student and employee ID card to either the McHenry or S&E Circulation desk to start a library account.

Courtesy borrower (i.e. Friends of the Library) cards are issued at either desk.

BORROWING, RENEWING & RETURNING

Borrowing privileges are extended to faculty, staff, students, and courtesy borrowers. Materials circulate according to item type and/or borrower’s status; please note the due date.

Due dates may be extended by telephone, in person or online (http://cruzcat.ucsc.edu/patroninfo.html).

Return items to either the McHenry or S&E Library.

OVERDUE & LOST ITEMS

Borrowed materials are due on the date given to you at checkout (unless renewed). However, the materials you borrow can be recalled by other patrons, which may change your due date. To stay up-to-date on your borrowed items and avoid charges, check your library account in CRUZCAT (http://cruzcat.ucsc.edu/patroninfo.html).

Patrons will incur fines for materials turned in late, and replacement charges will be assessed for lost materials.

REQUESTING ITEMS

UCSC materials that are checked out may be recalled by placing a hold in CRUZCAT.

The Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery service allows UCSC faculty, staff and students to borrow materials from other libraries.

Delivery of materials to a campus address is available to UCSC faculty, staff, and graduate students. Note that a fee is charged for delivery of periodical articles that UCSC Library already owns.

For information on these services visit the

Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery page (http://library.ucsc.edu/services/ill).

COMPUTING, PRINTING & PHOTOCOPYING

The University Library supports Mac & PC platforms for research and, email, and word processing.

Wireless computing is available to faculty, staff and students. Guest access is also available.

Eligible university affiliates may borrow laptops at each Library.
