Chris Preston and Jason Cravens from Halyard Medical presented respiratory products; new endotracheal tube and talked about bundles, product, and research regarding sub-glottal suctioning and prevention of VAE/VAP. Oral care kits were part of the presentation. Chris will be willing to present to any groups interested in the new ETT with the poly cuff and cylindrical-shaped cuff. Brochures were distributed with contact information.

Literature review of the article (actually two were sent out – one was an AJIC research piece that was from 2000, and an updated article was re-sent with the same topic). Both articles focused on hand held devices and risk for transmission of pathogens. Discussion included need for further research, current research, and findings were generalized. Suggestions from attendees included using microfiber cloth for cleaning – ATP reading after using microfiber resulted in a reading of 8 with 50 being acceptable. The pathogen (organism) is not known as this test does not identify organisms. Recommendation for the next research article to review is about MDRO/ESBL’s. Group agreed on reviewing an article two times annually.

Congratulations to Janene Gumz-Pulaski for SARE re-certification!
