Howdy!GUIDE is a mentorship organization in the Student Government Association that seeks to help freshmen find their fit during their first year at Texas A&M. Each freshman is provided with an upperclassman mentor, or Guide, who assists in the transition from high school to college. Each Guide is paired with one freshman in the hopes of creating a personal relationship that will foster growth in the Aggie Spirit. GUIDE has weekly Wednesday events alternating between Team Times and meetings. Mission Statement

GUIDE seeks to build meaningful mentor relationships between upperclassmen and freshmen. The Guide will be a basis of support for the freshman during their time at Texas A&M, serve as an aide in the development of their Aggie Spirit through knowledge of traditions, and help in the transition from high school to college.

Goals

Aggie Spirit

Aggie Spirit exists in all Aggies on some level. The collective Aggie Spirit on and off campus is what makes this university a truly unique institution. The Aggie Spirit must be passed on in order to remain strong. GUIDE should always strive to present its freshmen with positive examples so that the Aggie Spirit can grow within future generations of Aggies.

Leadership & Development

GUIDE not only wants its members to transition successfully into college, but also to be able to contribute to the Aggie Community. In order to allow members to take a more hands-on role in GUIDE, there are four committees that provide both Guides and Fish the opportunity to develop and implement leadership skills.

Personal Relationships

The primary goal of GUIDE is to facilitate the creation of personal relationships, in particular between a freshman and their Guide. All efforts of this organization should be focused on the creation of these relationships. At the least, these relationships should allow the freshman to find a sense of belonging at Texas A&M and allow them to gain a broader awareness of the opportunities and services that are available to them here. The ability to build personal relationships is vital to success at Texas A&M and in the world beyond it.

Transition

GUIDE was established to aid in the transition of freshmen from high school to life at Texas A&M University. Texas A&M can be a very overwhelming environment. The knowledge and experience of the Guides and executive team should be harnessed for the benefit of the freshmen. In this way, we hope for the transition to be as successful as possible.

GUIDE's admissions process can be found in Chapter 104, Article 5, Section 1 of the SGA Code. You have the right to appeal any committee decision to the Judicial Court.

Membership Responsibilities

1. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPR (3.0 for graduate students) and post at least a 2.0 (3.0 for graduate students) in every semester that you are in GUIDE.

2. Be in good standing with the university, and be enrolled in at least six credit hours if an undergraduate student (unless fewer credits are required to graduate in the spring semester) or at least four credit hours if a graduate student (unless fewer credits are required in the final stages of your degree) during your time as a member.

3. Plan to be enrolled at Texas A&M for the spring semester of the year you are applying to be involved in GUIDE.

4.Attend weekly Wednesday night meetings and Team Times at 7pm, in addition to other events. (e.g.: service projects, socials, etc.)

5. Participate in a GUIDE committee and attend all associated events and meetings.

6. Work at least one hour shift of GUIDE’s Spring Tour GUIDE Day on the first 2 days of the spring semester (January 20th-21st).

7. Abide by the GUIDE Code of Conduct and uphold a universally accepting environment at all times.

*Students enrolled in the Blinn TEAM program are eligible to apply, as long as the student is meeting all applicable Blinn TEAM requirements and is in good standing with the program (Student Rule 41.2.2.1).

Wednesday night = GUIDE night! Every Wednesday, there will be either a meeting or anotherGUIDE event that must be attended. In addition to Wednesday nights, another night per week (tbd) will be a social or a Team Time. The point of all organization hangouts is to meet and get to know the Freshmen and the Guides.Mark your calendars now and get excited!

DUES: $75 (Please let us know if this is a problem so we can help you. We can work out payment plans if needed.) Dues will be used to fund retreats, socials, meeting/activity supplies and organization shirts.
